I finally found pics of custom clear TA tail-lights.....They are the grid style

I finally found a pic of the clear tail lights everyone wants to see. They are the grid style tail lights. They dont look half bad. I kind of like them. They arent what everyone is thinking. These arent completely clear...they still have the grids...just are otherwise clear...I have no idea how to post the pics so somebody please let me know how to do it. Thanks.

You know, those clear tail w/ the grid are probably just the reflectors taken out. Its really easy to do and I played with the idea for a second when I blacked out mine...

I hate to break this to you, those are FACTORY tail lights. Those are 85-90 T/A and 87-90 GTA Ffactory tail lights. Only the red lens has been removed from inside. I put those style lights on my 83. There is a red plastic lens that sits over the outer 3 bulbs, no screws or anything. Heres how to remove it.

1.) Remove the tail lights from the car. you gotta remove all the plastic wing nuts from the inside of the hatch. Then remoe the sockets from the light housings.

2.) If you look at the bottom of the light, there are 2 metal clips. Pull up on them to remove them, but cup your hand over it while you do this, because they like to shoot off, and they are a PITA to find in grass.

3.) Now look at the top of each tail light, and you will see a bump in the plastic. These are plastic rivets, and the only way I could get mine out was to break them. I did was take a slotted screwdriver, pry under the rivet head (the bump) and break it off. Then all i had was the shaft inside the hole, which I pushed down out of the hole with the screwdriver. Now carefullt pull the outer lens from the backing. There is alot of weatherstrip goo crap that holds them together, but it will come loose if you pull on it. When you get the 2 halves apart, you will see the 2 smaller lenses inside. One is a clear reverse lens, and the other is the red light lens. This is the one you can take out. Since you have all this apart, I recommend cleaning all the pieces good. Mine had spider webs in it when I pulled it apart!
Hope this helps, hey maybe I should write a tech article.

Ward...I forgot to mention that. The guy said he did them himself. He didnt buy them like that....Im not sure if I am going to either make my tail lights clear like that or if I should buy that black out spray. Does anybody know how the black out spray can sold in the Summit catalog works? I want to spray my grid style tail lights.

No. On Camaros, the plastic isn't clear with a colored reflector under it. The lens themselves are red (and amber, of course).

That's because, as mentioned above, Camaro lights are TOTALLY DIFFERENT than firebird lights. Your *** is going to hurt when you see how much it's going to cost for a new tail light.

Most of the time, you can get red, blue, green, whatever color bulbs you want at a pep boys or auto parts shop. I know A&A has a wide assortment out here in PA.

they are fender bender int., and they sell red bulbs a buck a bulb compared to stores prices of $3-5 each. just remember, that red bulbs have a life of about 1-4 weeks each depending on how much you use your brakes.

Okay I have a tip, but it ghetto (it works good, tho). We did this on my buds 65 mustang interior lights to make them all the same color of green. Go to the local office supply store and buy a red sharpie. IT MUST BE PERMANENT INK!! You can color the bulb red and no one will know its not a red bulb.

I've never tried this(Yet), but I've read about using modeling paint to coat bulbs. This was a magazine article, so it's reliable. They used a candy which is transparent. Anyway the paint was candy and they thinned it to get the right consistency. They dipped the bulbs in the paint and let them dry hanging with the glass down so that the paint dried evenly. I haven't tried this, but it should work. The paint I'm talking about comes in small jars not spray cans. You can get just about any color in model paint. They used this for interior lights, but I don't see why it won't work for the exterior lights too.

i painted the stock bulbs when i put the clears on my truck. i used regular spray paint, just put a thin coat or 2 on there. the light shines thru on mine just fine.

p.s. those ta lights look cool. watch out for the cops if you don't have any red reflectors on the back of your car. i haven't gotten busted for mine yet, but if i don't put a reflector back there soon, i'm going to get pulled over.

Bringing it to the top. So here they are once again. I am still deciding whether to black out my tail lights or clear them out. What do you think would look good on a red TA?

You know, I knew a guy who had clear tail lights on his Ranger but instead of buying red bulbs or painting them he had bulb covers. They were red pieces of rubber (or something like that) that went on right over the clear bulbs. I don't know if they came with a kit but there's an idea for ya. Personally I don't like the clear tail lights, but they do look ok on some cars.

Red bulbs are ILLEGAL in Texas! The DOT has not approved any red bulbs for use in motor vehicles. You have to have red lenses and white bulbs...somethin to do with how bright thay are. I sure see alot of rice with them though. Wonder how they get their inspections...they are cracking down on Illegal inspections here too.

oh this appeared again... here's the poop. I have an idea to still look stock but not be, either take the red lenz out, and get a red bulb/ or paint it ---- OR ----- take the lenz out, paint the inside of the taillight (not the lense) with candy apple red translucent (availiable @ any hobby store, and paint the light w/ the red too.)

the latter would still look stock. just another idea.

I've done the first my my girlfriend's '94 grand prix SE.

this will work for =
88-96 grand prix
early 90's grand am w/ grid taillights.
95-90 ta
96-02 grand prix (looks like it
new bonnivilles

take a look at most pontiacs, it looks possible on most models, most late model years.
