upgraded headlights?
upgraded headlights?
anyone know if theres any form of updated or upgraded version of our headlights? such as like a HID version or anything? my one headlight has a small tiny crack in it and will need to be replaced, the other one is so old im replacing it too but really wanted to put something sorta 'new and fantastic' in there. a bunch of my friends got HID lights for their trucks and they really work nicely, anyone have any ideas?

Re: upgraded headlights?
For a 100% direct plug-in, but still sealed beam headlight...Go with the Sylvania Silverstar H6054ST.
Great output, cheap ($20 each), but they do seem to only have a 2-3 year life span. True HIDs will run you $170 & up, from what I've found.
In the city, the Silverstars work great. Do you drive mostly in the city or dar country roads?

i live in a rural area, small towns and such. some roads have no lights and can get pretty dark. i dont really want to spend 350 on headlights so i probably will go with the sylvania's how decent are they? i was kinda figuring that if i got nice enough headlights i'd try to do the fog lights too to make them a bit updated as well.
thanks

Re: upgraded headlights?
I do both city and dark country road driving and 2 months ago I finally decided to truly upgrade my lighting situation. At first I tried silverstars..then swithed to h4 and now went to hid with both foglights and headlights. If you shop around you can find good deals on the conversions.i spent $200 doing hids all inclusive from ebay.
I found a sale for hids that are both hi/low beam with all new black diamond cut with the "fake" projector housing for $99.Then i also found brand new blazer replacement foglight for $50 for the pair and the hid conversion for foglights were another $50.
To be honest I wasnt expecting much with spending so little on everything..I was doubting they would work to begin with being that cheap but the results were beyond what I could imagine.I choose 6000k hids for a nice crystal white, did not want the more blue or purple tint to them that most people go for.
They light my path extremely well.Though I suggest if you do this..aim them right down as to not disturb people infront of you directly or oncoming traffic.Another reason why I choose the black housing was to tone the light output done some, many others will suggest using hella converted housing for hid conversions on our cars for proper light distribution but if you tweak them enough you will get the job done.

Re: upgraded headlights?
What is our HID conversion kit look like? and where could i find one? Just curious on how it looks... I'm interested in new headlights i just don't know what to get. Need something alot brighter to see more at night, because i have the lowest rated sylvania and they suck, lol
Re: upgraded headlights?
If you search on the web or other forums, you will find that a lot of people don't recommend HID's in a Halogen housing. Or recommend you point them at the ground. They aren't supposed to be near as bad in E Code housings but I don't know. Never played around with HID's. Personally, I don't want a cop to have too many reasons to pull me over so I've stayed away from HID's.
What other ways help besides going to HID's or just slapping in Silverstar enclosed headlights?
1) E code H4 Headlights. I don't know if they make them for 82-90 firebirds. I bought Hella E code headlights for 91-92 style headlight though. E code or european are not DOT rated but I really doubt an oncoming vehicle would tell the difference. Best beam pattern for a halogen bulb. Just directs the light better and thus making it brighter where it needs to be. Bad thing is they are more expensive than the Ebay H4 housings. Summit Racing sells them for 91-92 birds.
2) Upgrade your harness. Thicker wires and relays. They sell kits or you can make your own harness. Thicker wires=less electrical resistance=a brighter bulb.
3) Better Halogen bulb with no coating. The coating changes the color of light but also blocks light. Avoid 100W bulbs, stuff starts melting with those high wattage bulbs.

4) 9004's in fogs. I haven't tried this. Always afraid I'd heat up the bumper or paint on the bumper too much. Link: https://www.thirdgen.org/9004

"These ARE my dim lights." Car goes by.....
CLICK...."THESE are my high beams."
Sun came up early.....
Now I want HIDs too!
What I have my sights set on will come to $167.90

Re: upgraded headlights?
Those were her STOCK lights. So you can bet the factory has a good cut-off line to prevent such blinding antics, of oncoming drivers. Not once has anybody ever brighted us, with her low beams on.

Re: upgraded headlights?
I'll add another + for the Rennbay kit.
Its well made, installs easy, and works great!
I even had a small problem with mine (relay was bad out of the box, so the drivers side bulb only lasted a few min). I told Travis at Rennbay about it, and he sent out a new relay and 2 new bulbs, no questions asked.

Re: upgraded headlights?
I've had very good luck personally with my HID bulbs/ballasts from DDM Tuning. Great prices and they do have kits with lifetime warranties.
As for housings, I'm very interested in seeing what people have found for projector housings that work on the birds. After upgrading my bulbs on the G8, I don't think I could ever go back to halogen again.
As a few people have mentioned, you may have to adjust your lights down a bit to be courteous to other drivers. Being able to see everyone else is nice, but not if they're getting blinded. May end up causing more accidents than they reduce.

Re: upgraded headlights?
If your doing HID's you should be retrofitting projectors as well.

Re: upgraded headlights?
6054 is the correct size for 'birds. Only that that could keep those from fitting, was if they were a 100% plug-in, into the Nissan body wiring for power.
