I purchased a hood from ASCD/Stinger. I was a littler disappointed by it, but I wanted to ask if it's normal for the hood to come like this. It's very rough on the underneath. It seems as if the bottom half of the hood is about 1 1/2 inches smaller than the upper half all the way around. If this is how it usually comes, did you guys just fill up that area with bondo? Also the area where the scoop is was not cut to the same size as the upper half so you can see a lip if you look through the scoop opening. This is not that big of a deal I'll just end up putting a dremel to it but I wanted to ask the question. If you guys have any tips or tricks to sizing and prepping the hood for paint that would be very much appreciated. Thanks. Here are some pics to show what I'm talking about.
Anyone?

I got the same hood , yes itīs rough on the underside on the sides and corners , not a big deal for myself . A comen thing seams to be a bump on the drivers side about 4-5 inches from the window seen so check it out ,can be hard to see at once . It think my hood had good quality thinking of itīs made of fiberglas .

I got my SS Hood from raceonusa, Idk if it bein a duraflex hood makes a difference, but I didnt have any issues like that. On mine the only issue I had was that the two layers werent sealed around the hood scoop opening, I dont think thats a problem but I personally dont want air or water getting in between and take the risk of the layers seperating. Im thinking on using seem sealer or panel bond and sealing the gap up.

So then did you do anything for the underside or did you only paint the top side of the hood?

I bought my hood from ASCD like 7yrs ago, came exactly like yours did. I spent a few weeks filling in that seam/trough with tiger hair resin, sanded it smooth, put some fillery puddy in then had it painted. Lasted so far with no issues and looks super smooth along the edges now. Also painted the underside of the hood gloss black, red on the top.Originally Posted by Nefarious

Fiberglass parts in general are like that on the underside, except for some real expensive ones that are advertised as finished on the underside, even then they might not be perfect.

Sounds interesting. I hadn't thought of finishing off the gaps like that. I'm sure that is very time consuming since you have to constantly wait on it to dry before applying another layer. Is there anything I should look out for before I block the top part or can I treat it like a regular panel.Originally Posted by AC

Nefarious, no you don't actually. I found a sort of body filler mix but it wasn't bondo but was actually an extrememly viscous pre-mix of resin, filler and fiberglass (tiger hair). It was hard as fiberglass when done but still sanded easily. I used a skim coat of body glaze filler to remove any pours in the final surface. You literally CANNOT discern where the seam / gap was now. It was worth every hour.
