The reat window louves/ covers/ you know what I mean!

With winter finaly to an end, and the engine being put back together (Had to replace the old vaulve seals , what a nightmare) Its time to start making the car shine again.

I put a sound system in my trunk last fall, wired everything up all nice and tight. Hid the cables the best I could yada yada. The bass from my subs vibrates the roll out cover that covers my subs & amps. My rear window is tinted limo tint, but needs to be changed to 35% (NEW IL LAW FOR LEGAL TINTS YAY!!!) And you can still see my equipment below. So I was looking into the windows louvers.

THE QUESTION-
Anyone have any good or bad thoughts about these? That it be plastic or metal, single or three sections, things like that? Brands that are better than others? Anything like that, all info is appreciated! THANKS!

they looked cool back in the 80's my car had them, they flew off some where.... my uncle gave me another pair he had, those flew off also. now it's 5% limo tint, no sound system back there except an edelbrock rpm series cat back...

Re: The reat window louves/ covers/ you know what I mean!

Do they really come off that easy? I would love to keep the dark tint but if I wanna tint my side windows ILs new law is 35% all around or dark as u want in the back and no more that 50% in the fronts. SUVs are different though FYI.

Re: The reat window louves/ covers/ you know what I mean!

it depends on how they're bolted down. many people that are 2nd, 3rd + owners of louvers, are missing a few of the screws or clips.

i dont have the bottom clips that sit on the glass in and i've been up to around 100 mph and they havent flown off. *knock on wood*

i love mine, and i'm so glad i got them. i have the 1 piece aluminum ones. you're just gonna have to look and see which kind you like (or even can find)

these days they're very rare so if you see the ones you want, get them while you can

I'de imagine that with my subwoofers aluminum might not be the best option? Do you have a problem with that at all, or anything like it? What brand do you have?

i dont know if it would really be a problem. my guess is no more than plastic.

i dont know what brand i have, i heard that they're the factory ones.

Window louvers are gross. They weren't cool then and they aren't cool now.

Re: The reat window louves/ covers/ you know what I mean!

They sure do hide what's in the rear and keep the inside a lot cooler! Mine are factory, don't rattle and DO look good on the car. The downside is that it is a pain to dry the window and louvers after a wash or rain. I don't deal with that very often and it is a pain when I do it so I could imagine dealing with this regularly on a daily driver. If they are mounted correctly, they will not fly off. The ones that do fly off are aftermarket sets taht are cheap and don't mount very good.

Don't they flip up so you can clean the glass underneath them?

Re: The reat window louves/ covers/ you know what I mean!

Those One Piece factory louvers are very rare, extremly sought after, and can cost you a pretty penny on ebay. I have my original factory louvers and i love them. they dont rattle they have never flown off since 1987 and they look awesome. Unless your prepared to drop a dime or to your best bet would be the aftermarket cheap plastic ones.. But also legal tint around here is 75% i think. ive never had any problems with the 10% on my jeep or the 25% on my camaro. Around here they dont harass the classics and show cars. There going after the Fart can Hondas and Acuras.

Re: The reat window louves/ covers/ you know what I mean!

I had the same one piece louvers. Unfortunately they flew apart at over 100 mph on the the drag strip and hit someone elses car. I miss those things. I just can't justify spending big money replacing them even tho mine was the original factory option. Now I have scratches on the window where they rubbed. I'm thinking about tinting..
