Re: 3rd wit Hood Pins Pic Thread

I replaced the top plate with a stainless steel washer and a thin rubber gasket under that and all held on with black silicone adhesive. No screws , only one hole for the pin.

Yes the latch is still there. Long story short = I had a hood fly open on me at 55 mph.with a 1972 Chevy Blazer. All it took was having that happen once and now I'm a big fan of the hood pin.

wasnt to happy about it nor was i going as fast as you were, but was enough.

Re: 3rd wit Hood Pins Pic Thread

Not to be rude or anything, but i dont think they look good on 3rd gens at all. They just ruin the hood. hood pins on earlier style muscle looks great, but thats about it.

Re: 3rd wit Hood Pins Pic Thread

I feel they serve a purpose with after market hoods. before i tore into my car i had a aftermarket hood and at anything over 70mph it would flap around side to side pivoting off the hood latch i always felt uneasy about it and i didn't want to run pins, but i just bought a set so when im ready to bolt everything back together its getting pins this time around.

Heres a good example . . .

Not rude at all, but i agree - with the old school cars- it fits 100% cause of the look.
with third gens - i have seen em' were i like the look and when i have not- i think it is about the over all car!!!

sometimes the over all look will make it more fitting then others.
I wanted to see pics of it already done- to see the look and the actuall how too.!!!

i mean i hardly see TA with them...dont mean i wont, just dont really see many.
The hood lines seem to fight it but as already mentioned mine would be for funtion not just looks...

Re: 3rd wit Hood Pins Pic Thread

Hard to see but the owner before me ruined the new hood with the pins and holes. In the market for a sunoco cowl hood now.

Re: 3rd wit Hood Pins Pic Thread

You know I must agree that my car would look allot cleaner without the pins. But it my case they are not for looks. They serve a purpose for me . When I first got the car I would take it on the interstate and I would get a knot in my stomach just thinking about the time that hood flew open on me. With the pins I'm confident that will never happen again. And they grow on you. I think I did a good job on them and they look OK to me.

I agree, my 'glass hood shakes all over the place when I', going about 70 or more. I wouldn't ever want it to fly off, that would be expensive to replace/fix.

Re: 3rd wit Hood Pins Pic Thread

I used the ones that have the captured pins. No way to lose them. The aerocatch ones are really nice, but pricey when I looked.

Under hood

Before paint

After Paint

Liked them so much I used them on the hatch too!
