i keep getting a nasty film on the inside of my windshield. ive cleaned it off with a mild dish soap followed by windex and it was good for about a week and now its back. i have a feeling that there is some chemical or something coming in through the vent in the dash and sticking on my widshield. not having brights and living up on a mountain with 2 lane winding roads, cliffs, and other cars, and no street lights makes driving at night almost a deathsentence unless i drive like a Chinese grandma. and that film with oncomming headlights just makes a huge glare that i cannot see past only to make sure im between the right most headlight and the white line on the right. i hardly drive at night because of this but still it would be nice to figure the problem out

 

Guessing. You might drop the pass side hush panel and take a peek for any weeping coolant, which would indicate a heater core problem, a problem that typically fogs the winshield.

interesting, all though its not really a fog but a film i first thought it was armor all from when the previous owner shined up the car before i bought it. but your point is noted and next time i head to my mechanic i shall have him take a look there.

 

Do it yourself and save a lot of money... Definitely sounds like a failing heater core.

 

this its really easy to do if you follow the article on this site. if you try to do it the hayes/chilton way it would take you 12hrs.

I'm just going to ask because it was the first thing that popped into my head, but you're not a smoker are you?

If not, I would also check that heater core.

Alright, was just asking. Because as I'm sure you already know the nicotine and other chemicals in the smoke from cigarettes gets on windows and creates a disgusting filmy substance. I know because I smoke, always with the windows down and I clean the inside of the windshield almost once a week.

or was the person before you a smoker, my g/f used to smoke in her car when she first got it in 2004 and we just sold it the other day and you can still see the film on the windows from when she smoked a long time ago. its hard to get off, might just be that

then again ive had a heater core go bad to and it does almost the same thing, except you can smell the antifreeze in your car when that happens

 

same thing happens to my wifes car or mine when she drives it, i believe it has something to do with her hair products or her asthma pumps i still havent been able to pin point it, but that's the only thing i can think of that maybe different from me because it only happens to her, we both have the cars since new (06/07) models so is not like it has to do with things done before. and is a film that just keeps coming back.
