4th Gen wings, No wings and HAWKS fiberglass wing..POST PICS HERE!

going to be getting my car painted in the near future and cant decide whether i want to keep it with NO wing, get a HAWKS 4th Gen Wing or just get the OEM HAWKS fiberglass aero wing...

i really like the wing-less look but im just not sure...
the only firebird ive seen without a wing is my buddy Frank's 87 Trans Am and it looks awsome.

so....
post pics if you have...
no wing
4th gen wing
or the fiberglass aero wing

First off thes are not my pics but some i saved while looking around. for the no spoiler this is the slickest car i know of. Anything on the back end would ruin it.

You can buy an OEM 4th gen wing (if you wanna go 4th gen style) for CHEAP & just put that on, with a little extra effort. Way worth it, if you ask me.

Re: 4th Gen wings, No wings and HAWKS fiberglass wing..POST PICS HERE!

I just installed my fiberglass aero spoiler this past summer and I LOVE IT. I think it goes so great with the lines of our cars. Especially the Trans Am. Its so light. The hatch opens up so easy.

I dont mind spoilerless...esp on formulas or base cars. It has to go with the theme of the car though. Sometimes it looks a little naked or out of place.

I chose to add the under wing brake light vs. keeping my hatch glass high mount.

Painted satin black since my car's spoiler was originally unpainted black texture. When the car is repainted, it will likely be painted to match...depends what color I go with. For now, the satin black was quick and easy, looks great, and is SUPER durable so far. Even being under the cover hasnt rubbed it off any.

Re: 4th Gen wings, No wings and HAWKS fiberglass wing..POST PICS HERE!

If I were you I would do the wrap around from Hawks. That is my opinion though, I also think the 4th gen spoiler looks totally out of place on a 82-90 Trans Am. No spoiler just looks too damn plain, I had my car like that for a few months and I couldn't stand it. I had to wait for my fiberglass one from hawks for like 3 or 4 months after I changed my hatch over. It just doesn't look right to me.

Ugh... Every time you guys post a picture of a clean black TA with Gold wheels it makes me miss my 87 sooo bad. It also tempts me to paint my 86 black....

Mikey... I believe its the same one that Hawks sells. I thought there was another company out there selling these...but maybe they just make them for Hawks to sell? I got it used with some other parts....basically for free in perfect condition. Its a great piece, and since my old one wasnt splitting yet, I was able to sell it and get a decent amount for it.

My thoughts exactly when I saw it. It's now the background on my home AND work computers LOL. That car can pull off no spoiler. It takes the right set up though and he nailed it. Such a sexy stance!

No, def not. Lowering a car and adding nice 17" or 18" wheels does wonders for what you can and can't pull off. With that said, if your into the stock wheel/stock ride height, then leave it looking stock.

I know its not exactly what you have in mind but it might be another idea. I put this on because I got the car with no spoiler and didnt like it, plus the holes where still there. So I filled the holes and went to You Pull and got this off a Camaro. Its not in the picture but I did put a 3rd brake light in the middle so the wires are not just hanging out.

Birds already look 'cleaner' than camaros. But, wingless take home the cake..It even sounds tasty..

Without a spoiler, on any Thirdgen, just looks funny to me. The back just slopes off. Lowerd, larger rimes, no difference, still doesn't look right.

IMO....and I don't want to offend anyone....but a camaro spoiler on a firebird just looks kind of wrong to me. They look "good" but just out of place for someone that knows third gens. I'd stick to a TA or firebird spoiler on a firebird.

Is it me or does that firebird with the high rise kind of remind you of a NSX?

I personally think firebirds done right can look good with no spoiler, Camaros on the other hand...

If you are to do a wing, only do A low profile stock Aero wing. Some of the after market ones posted above sit WAY to proud and don't fit the lines of the car. In my profile/Album enlarge the first of the 2 pics of my Formula and that is the proper stock wing/spoiler. You asked and that is what I would go with. too bad the guy driving my car (me) didn't look half as good as my car

Ya I know it doesnt fit as well as the factory one but thats what I had to work with, plus I thought it might bring back a little of the 1st gen look....

Haha...scroll up. Few large pictures of my car with one...hard to miss! They look exactly like a stock aero spoiler. Mine fit perfectly and looks great.

That's cool that you like yours but do your homework the Hawks is NOT the same as stock. Stock is much wider in the back-end coming out to the fender on both driver/pass. sides not too just the hatch on both sides. Stock also sits much lower and is flush/level on top not contoured.......

Maybe I should do my homework.... LOL. I looked around and found some more like yours(different years than my 91' WS6). Stock or not I am not sure? The only thing I know is that your spoiler wing does not match my stock wing at all............

Thats because you have a 91-92... I always considered the aero spoiler to be the 86-90 one. But I guess you can consider the 91-92 the aero as well.

As far as it not matching a stock 86-90 aero (which I know you arent saying they dont match now that you noticed the year difference, but thought these pics would be interesting to some anyway)...

Since Hawks does sell a fiberglass version of yours...Im sure you can find some pics of it. However, Im willing to bet it matches pretty good. The mounting system will most likely be different, but honestly, the way I mounted mine is 100x better than factory in my opinion. No plastic clips to break, and very sturdy. Not to mention adjustable... Im sure you would find the same quality with the 91-92 style.

One I'm curious to see is a convertable spoiler on a hard top or t top car.

I got mine for OEM one $75, which was the regular price. I think your thinking about the aftermarket 3rd gen ones that look like 4th gen wings.

Go to a junkyard buy an 4th gen OEM wing & save a bunch of money.....

Re: 4th Gen wings, No wings and HAWKS fiberglass wing..POST PICS HERE!

I think he was saying the 4th gen sits too high for his taste...and that he would either go with nothing, or the Hawks replacement aero spoiler.

Mikey...keep your eyes peeled in the for sale sections too. When I wrecked my car, I went to a guys place to pick up a hood, headlight buckets and a couple other odds and ends. I ended up picking up a perfect condition hawks spoiler and a mint third brake light for like an extra 100 bucks. Talk about a deal.... You'll like the fiberglass spoiler though. yes its pricey. But its so light, and you can sand it and paint it without worrying about sanding too far...or worry about it cracking. Its a nice piece.

@ the first part: Exactly

@second part: hmm...aero wing would be great but i want something more unique and the wingless look, to me, makes it stand out

I believe there is a reason GM early on stopped offering Thirdgens with no spoiler... if that what you think "stands out" then all the best.

There is much debate on wings at the G-Body site as well that I belong too.... They want 3RD Gens... I like "jrm81bu" 's low profile wing. Is it a 3RD as they claim, not sure?? I hope this link works....5 POST DOWN AT... http://gbodyforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=23746&start=15

Re: 4th Gen wings, No wings and HAWKS fiberglass wing..POST PICS HERE!

I still vote for the aero wing from hawks. Not trying to offend anyone, but the fourth gen wing should stay on a fourth gen, it is way too high, and is way too round to be put on the smooth, squared off 3rd gens. I could see that one on the camaro a few posts above on a 91-92 Trans am MAYBE. When I had my car wingless, everyone that I ran into on the street assumed that I took off the stock aero spoiler because it cracked and rotted. It just does not look complete without a spoiler of some kind on it, and I love the aero spoiler. I would try to see how it looks without the third brake light if I had to try again. I have never seen another spoiler like the aero so they are already unique lol. The GTA as a whole is unique lol.

Yes...that appears to be a firebird spoiler. You can find em pretty easy I believe.
