make your shift boot look like new

yesterday I picked up a used leather shift boot (with a frame), but it had fading and discoloration on the parts where the leather had been folded and creased for 20 years.

I was a little disappointed, but I hate the cheap look of the vinyl one I have now.. I have a leather shift ****, I wanted the boot to match, and I just cant find a OEM one for sale anywhere

So I took a little black shoe polish (the good stuff) and wiped it on, and buffed it out with a clean sock. I was shocked how good it looked! I didn't take any before picks, but I can take an after pic if anybody is interested

After doing mine, I'd recommend a thorough cleaning with saddle soap before the shoe polish. I was amazed as well.

i didn't think of saddle soap.. I just used 409 and let it dry before I put the polish on

I like the idea of saddle soap because it not only cleans the leather but also includes lanolin which acts as a preservative. Actually, the soap polishes up very nicely on its own. I use a shoe brush to give the final touch.
