Ground Clearance: Normal or Not?

On my 1987 Camaro Sport Coupe, it has 15x7 wheels with 215/60/15 tires. When on level ground, it sits about 2-2.5 inches off the ground. Im thinking about getting the 3 inch. American Thunder Flowmaster Cat-back, but im faced with this ground clearance issue. Most of the Sport Coupes i've seen sit a lot higher than mine. Even z-28s sit higher than mine. Is there something abnormal or wrong, or what? Should i get new shocks and struts? Im planning on getting 16x8 wheels and 245/50 tires, but there is a possibility that i get 15x7 88-90 IROC wheels. What should i do to get a little more ground clearance without it sitting like a 4x4?

Yours has probably been dropped, as was mine when I bought it. I wasn't aware till I really looked. Mine sits 3 inches off the ground near the doors, my cat is maybe about 2 to 1 inch off the ground... lol. Its still in tach and working fine.

Thats exactly how mine is. The cat is literally about 1-1.5 inches off the ground. What should I do in order to be able to put 3 inch pipes on? New shocks and struts?

Maybe the tires are making the ride a little lower. I believe stock was 215/65R15 and the 60 series you have will be shorter height-wise. It shouldn't make a huge difference though. It's likely that your car has been lowered.

Shocks and struts do absolutly nothing for raising ride height (a seemingly common misconception).
You can add spacers in the springs (better left for correcting minor body height issues, like body lean, imo) or, you can
go to the junkyard & get a set of stock springs from another camaro or firebird or, you could get a new set of lowering springs in hopes it will raise the car slightly w/o making it look like a "4x4".

The only real problem with those tires, they will cause the speedo be fast.

How will 16x8 wheels with 245/50/16 tires affect the height. Will the lower profile tire match the bigger wheel, making it no bigger than the old 215/60/15?
