Re: Metal trim around the rear hatch window

I just took mine off a few weeks ago. In order to get the the trim off the window completely you have to remove the window. Open the window and have someone else hold it up while you remove the 4 13mm nuts that hold the window to the hinges. When I did mine I removed the hinges, but realized later it was easier just to remove the glass. After you get it off you will see that you cant remove the trim with the window on the car w\o removing those 4 nuts. Also there is two screws on the back under the deck lid. As far as painting it can't help you there I was just tired of looking at the rust. I just sanded it down and used some left over black spray paint I was trying to get rid of. When you put it back on the window put the 2 screws at the deck in first so you can work the trim back up on the glass and so that the 4 bolts at the top line up with the holes in the metal trim at the top.

Re: Metal trim around the rear hatch window

Been trying to find out sealer they used in the metal trim myself with no luck yet. There was a adhesive sealer used off some kind but it seems no one knows what it was. Will let you know if I find out what it is.

Check with your local window repair shops & see what they use.

Re: Metal trim around the rear hatch window

I have called several shops and they say bring in and they will put the trim back on for $100. I am waiting for a guy that comes into work and he replaces auto glass for a living and I am going to ask him.

Re: Metal trim around the rear hatch window

minigunz, I had that same question about the trim on my 92 RS.. Mine's getting rusty and I was wondering if anyone had ever just removed it and left it off... Would be interesting to know if that could be done and how it would look?

Re: Metal trim around the rear hatch window

Use urethane windshield adhesive and primer. It is made to bond glass to metal. Make sure you clean everything up before using.
