Ok guys, I need everyone's input here. In the state where you live do you:
a)Have to put a license plate on the front of the car?
b)Have to pass emissions? If so, how picky?
c)Is there a ski resort or beach within a 3 hour drive?

I'll start: Kansas: No front plate No emissions 10 hours to ski resort and 16 to the beach

In Los Angeles, CA
a)Have to put a license plate on the front of the car?
yes, but I don't and no tickets in 6 years of having the car in the family. It didn't come with a front plate. You can put it on the dash. As long as a cop can see it from the front to know the car isn't stolen. They don't want to have to look at the back and be surprised. That is their excuse at least.

b)Have to pass emissions? If so, how picky?
Yes, the most picky, unless you know someone
c)Is there a ski resort or beach within a 3 hour drive?
Beach 30 minutes, snow to sled on in 30 minutes. Ski resort 1 hour, dirty beach 20 mintues, clean beach 30 minutes away. SoCal kicks a s s!

In Jacksonville, Florida, you:
A) Don't have to put any plates up front
B) Have no emmissions to worry about
C) Can get to the beach in less than an hour
Bad news is there's only one track in Jax-and it's an 1/8 mile

 

1) I believe you have to have the front plate on. I don't see many without it so I figure they enforce it.

2) Well my IROC hasn't passed emissions in the 5 months that I've owned it. (not from neglect either )

3) Beach: 30-45, Ski: about 20

UTAH Front plate emmissions in most countys and 30 minutes from a ski resort, 15 minutes from the great salt lake ( kind ofa beach ) and 25 minutes from willard bay ( awesome place like lake powell )

Front license plate required.
Emmissions test in Dallas, Houston, Austin, and El Paso (as far as I know)
Snow? What's that?
Beaches anywhere from 5 minutes to 9 hours depending on where you live. Plenty of lakes though unless you're in West Texas. Then, it's just hard enough to find a town.

 

South Dakota here....

-Front plate? Yup, I actually got pulled over and was given a ticket for not having mine on!!

-Emissions? No worries there

-No beach anywhere near here , ski hill right here in town though

A) Front plate yes, mine resides on my dash though - have had no problems.

B) Depends on the town, mine no.

C) Ski 1 1/2, 2-3 for Whistler. Beach HA! Cold as hell but you can be at the ocean in 3-5 hours maybe? Puget sound 45 minutes or so.

2 tracks with in an hour or two, and then two other tracks in central/eastern Washington

You need front plates, but COPS arent too concerned with them unless they wanna be uncool.

There are no emissions test for annual safety inspection.

There is a beach within 30 minutes drive.

Oh...one more thing. THERE IS a race track.

No front plates.

Emissions need to be checked in larger cities and surrounding areas, but if you have a relative out in the sticks--ask if you can use their address to register your car and just pay the tax by mail. A very popular option 'round these parts.

Gatlinburgh is a good place to ski in the winter. No ocean beaches.

 

 

I'll cover 2 states:

Massachusetts
1. Front plates? Yes, and yes they enforce it.
2. E-check? How about a 50mph dyno test? The smog ***** are alive and well in the People's Republik Of Massachusetts.
3. Ski? All over the place. Ocean on the eastern side of the state but it's too frieking cold to matter.

Vermont.
1. Front plates? Yes, but I've been without for years. It's only a hassle at sticker time.
2. E-check? Nope. Just a visual, and that only consists of looking for a cat. Never popped my hood at an inspection yet.
3. Ski? Everywhere. Ocean? Bout 4 hours. Plenty of lakes though.

no beach is more then 1.5 hours away from me and im in the center of the state. closest is about 30 minutes.

 

Long Island New York
UpFront Plate --- Yes
Emissions--- Yes, tube in the rear and they report it to state if you fail.
Beach--- 7 mins from my front door.
Skiing--- like 2,3 hours

 

Louisiana

Front license plate: Hell no.

Emissions: None. Probably not even in New Orleans

Beach: About an hour and a half away, but trust me, you don't want to go there.

Ski resort: You're joking right?

 

Tucson, Arizona here:

1.no you don't need a front license plate
2.yes we get emissions tested its pretty thorough.
3.its like a 12-14 hour drive to the beach but the ski resort is really close.

 

Northern California:
They want you to run a front plate, but I haven't in eight years and they've never hassled me for it.
Smog is rough here, with so many tree-huggers but it's possible to find someone to ignore your mods for some xtra $.
Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk:40 minutes
San Francisco Ocean Beach: 35 Minutes
Half Moon Bay:40 Minutes
Sierra Mountain Resorts: About 3 Hours

-only visual on emissions(got a hookup anyways for when im not legal )
-lake ontario is about 5 minutes away,although it is a ghetto beach,dirrty *** lake.ski resorts are about an hour away.

Get the best of both worlds like I did. I live in Utah, like oldblue said real close to every major ski resort, then register your car some where else. I have my car registered in Killeen Texas, no front plate, no emsissions, no inspection at all. I just send money off every year and get a new sticker..... LIKE MAGIC! My car has NO emission equipment on it at all.....

ANother thumbs up for Florida, no emmisons, no plate, blah blah blah... and you don't have to store your car away for winter. Heck I've cruised around X-mas morning with the t-tops off. I don't think the tracks close down either, if so it would only be for a couple weeks.

 

Hey, dont mean to prove ya wrong Diabolical, but in CT we DO need front plates. Not many cops have been cracking down on it, but we are required to have them on. Happened sometime in the last couple years, not really sure myself. but i still would rather show off a bowtie grill than a stupid plate.

 

Crusader seems to be confused about WA, I guess he forgets the water is only in our backyards sometimes. It is less then 15 minutes to a beach for me.

Ski resort is about 1.5 to two of them (Baker and Stevens) and there are a ton within 3 hours.

Front plates required... but I don't have one period, no problems. Onyl reason is for Staters to aim a laser gun at you.

SIR is a 2 hour drive, Mission raceway in Canada is about the same. Ne emmissions as long as you don't live in the city.

 

In OK, at least in Tulsa:
No emissions
No Front Plates
no beach, we got lakes though
No Skiing, unless it's in your backyard
2 out of 4, not bad

 

Missouri:
1- Front plate required
2- Emmisions every 2 years.
3- you can go to our beautiful downtown st. louis... wait.. we have nothing...

 

PA

1) No front plate
2) Emissions - varies by county (Pittsburgh - yes)
3) Ski resorts about 1-1/2 hours away

 

There's beaches in Illinois on Lake Michigan. So move three hours from Chicago and you're set.

Nearest Nice beach is either 3 hrs (chicago) or about 20 hours to florida.

 

Nebraska
Plate required--you will get pulled over in most areas.
No emissions testing at all.
In the western part of the state it's less than 3 hours to the Mountains in Colorado.

2. No smog test
3. Ski with in 2 minutes and either lake Superior in 2 minutes and Michigan with in 45 minutes

 

im in the lower part of michigan, thankfully we dont have to have front licence plates cuz i love my grill too much to cover it up, no emissions(although i here it is coming soon, noooo!!) and there is a ski resort 45 minutes away, and the greatest beach area ever, grand haven(a.k.a. the pickup strip)

 

HAVEN'T SEEN OHIO MENTIONED YET:
Front plate required, but not enforced
E-Check, yes, every two years, but if you know someone its easy to pass, or you just go and whine about it and they pass you. No visual inspection.
There aren't any ski resorts in the southern part, but a small one close by in eastern indiana (1 hour drive). We have a water park called "the beach" but no real beaches near by.

Yes you have to have a front licence plate i dont tho and have been pulled over for it before then proceded to be searched.
I live in CA does that say anythign about emissions lol.
The beach is only a 25 min drive from my house.

 

Triangle area in North Carolina:

Front License Plate: No(not that i know of LOL)

Emmissions: Some countys do, some don't(For instance, Alamance County does not have emmissions, but its neighbor, Orange County, does.)

Ski Resort: 2-3 hours
Beach: Closest is about 2 hours, but Myrtle Beach, SC is 3 hours and its probably the best on the east coast.

35 min to a about 5 ski resorts, 1 1/2 hours to the beach, 10 min to one of 2 large rivers. front plate NO, and no problems. Emisions - yes we have the smog ****'s in the big citys (portland) but once you are out of the citys you can do what you want.
