removing hatch matrix...
ok i wan to tint my windows, but i am a little concerned about the rear hatch.
I'm thinking it might look like crap because of the matrix that is on the upper part of the hatch glass. i want that clean look, with no lines from a drefrost or anything...
so i'm wondering if anyone has removed it or at least knows how... like maybe with a razor blade or something....

the best way to deal with the stuff at the top of the car is to paint it out. probably using VHT niteshades. any shop that is really good at putting tint on should know to paint it before putting the tint on. as for the defoger, i dunno what to tell ya there. maybe the tint shop can tell ya what to do to keep it from showing up.
As far as the defogger grid..i have seen some tint jobs on cars with it.Can hardly tell from the outside that theres any difference with or with out the grid(only have seen this on cars with 5% rear window tint)but from the inside is a different story..i have driven a Camaro with the defogger grid and 5% tint on the rear glass. When i looked in the rear view mirror at night and there was a car behind me..for every line on the rear window(Line=defogger grid)it looked as if the car behind me had ten or so lights. The cars lights would shine on one line but then because of the tint and grid it actually shined off of each line.Very annoying..don't know if it was because of the type of tint or what.Maybe someone could "shine" some more information on this subject.I would say remove the grid if you could.Don't know how though...

Hola fellow thirdgenners....My firebirds got tint all the way around and defrost on the rear hatch...and im thinking it was the tint on the car that you drove..cause mines 5% on the back and while you cant see a whole lot through it..it doesnt do that to headlights...maybe it was a special reflective tint?...

well, i've seen a few firebirds and camaros with the tint placed all the way around even inside the matrix... anyone else seen this or know if the tint would stick???
Well, my car has 5% on the back, and you cant really tell the grid is there from the outside, and inside the car looking back it looks totally normal, no wierd reflections at night or anything.. I think it all depends on the quality of tint on the glass.
But, like alot of people said, Ask a tint shop.

My tint is three yrs old and hasn't pulled up from the black paint. I also believe it is the quality of the tint and the installer. On the 3/4" border between the defrost and the edge of the window, I used black electrical tape. It worked great. You can't take the defrost lines or the black paint off. They are baked into the glass when it is tempered. I hope this helps.

I had 35% on my back window with defrost( I say had because I broke my hatch glass about 3 weeks ago). I had the smoke colored with metal particles in the tint. Made it look like mirror tint when it was overcast and normally dark when it was sunny. I had no problems with headlights in the rear, maybe the tint wasn't installed right.
Here is a pic of mine from last year.
Overcast,
Sunny,
No hatch
