Fresh paint job- How to treat it?
Hello all I jus recently got my 88 firebird respected with a new white. And I was jus wondering how to treat it now from washing, waxing it? Leave it in garage out side? Can I drive it? What about a car cover how long to use one? And everything that I need to know. Thanks!

Do not wax until it has cured. Some of the guys here will give you more detailed info. I just know do not wax yet.

Re: Fresh paint job- How to treat it?
how long ago did you paint it. NO WAX FOR A WHILE! i wait 6 months for mine. after your car is fully dried from paint you should be able to drive it. depending on how heavy the coats were. i let my car sit in the garage for a day 80 degree days and 60 degree nights. with a heater in my garage kept on 70. theres a soap out there that i use, for the life of me, maybe since i just woke up, i cant remember the name of it. but its a white label, and kinda looks like a **** stars load... lmao you dont want to use dawn or anything on it cause its a HEAVY degreaser. ill figure it out later.... theres a lot of little things i do some people would say is excessive. like i dont let anything touch my car for weeks, no "centralized" water psi, like use the shower setting if you have it. or something that spreads the spray out and it isnt a solid stream. ill use a california duster just to cleaner the dust off. or if theres dirt ill take a hose with an open end hold it towards the top of the fender and let the water roll down the body. that normally does the trick..... i hope this helped

No wax.
No dish soap.
Car wash soap only if you do plan on washing it.
Watch out for bird ****, that could mess it up.
Keep it in a garage if you can and of course you can drive it.

Re: Fresh paint job- How to treat it?
yea you should be fine with just rinse it as much as you feel you should. and a week should be more then good enough.
id advise car washs as well. but sooo many have heavy cleaning agents i dont like to use on my car ecspecially a fresh paint... or majority of them have waxes made into them.
not saying hes wrong but my personal suggestion would be the ivory dish soap with a microfiber towel or something super soft. just make sure everything you use is super SOFT!
BTW POST PICS OF SAID PAINTJOB!!!

Don't rinse it with water unless you're going to use soap to actually wash the car.
Whatever you do, make sure you dry the car because if you just hose it off you're going to get nasty water etching, which takes a machine buffer to remove, which you of course don't want to do on your 5 day old paint job.
Wash it with proper car wash soap and dry it with quality MF, or leave it alone.
Don't wax for at least 60-90 days. Thus, since your paint is completely exposed, it's critical to take absolute care of it until you can protect it.

Ok I will wash it then with this car soap I bought. Only rain x the green one and I'm pretty sure it doesn't have wax in it or else it would say right? And I have a micro fiber drying towel and microfiber wash MIT should I be fine? The microfiber drying towel is the one you ring out and use it again

Re: Fresh paint job- How to treat it?
One thing I think is critical, they sell an insert for your wash bucket, it keeps the sponge or wash mit from getting the dirt off the bottom of the bucket. Every time you dip the mitt dirt comes off, if you keep going to the bottom you will wash the car with grit. This is even more critical for darker colors. Puma is correct, unless you plan to wash it dont just wet it and dry it, this will scratch it. Never use any type of dish soap, it will strip the wax off the car, I use a pro car wash by Chemical guys or Ardex.

Re: Fresh paint job- How to treat it?
Everyone dose things a little different from each other and I am a extremist at it when it comes to waxing my car as I don't use any "natural" wax products of any kind.I started with a synthetic product and decided to stay with synthetics. I use a product called Race Glaze cleaner and polish once a year and in between Meguiars Ultimate Pure Synthetic Polymer paste wax. My car has never been waxed with a "natural" product yet Ive found that this leaves a nice deep shine and is easy on, easy off, with a extremely protective coating.Anyway ,its just a option that's out there for newly painted cars and one I chose to use.

I never ever use wax on mine....then again...it's never outside.
Polishing it will add depth and give it more gloss....and it's safe for fresh paint. Polishing almost makes it look "wet" if it's done on a darker colors and has been wetsanded very smooth.

This picture has not been photoshopped or doctored up in anyway....I wetsanded my paint...buffed it...and now all I do is polish it. The polish add's gloss and make it look very very deep.
Then again...on white....it will not look like that just because of the color and the reflection.
