Definitely the 1987-90 Formula, don't care for the front end design after 1990 at all.

Re: Best Looking Formula
I am a bit partial to 87-90... But a 91-92 in red is pretty hard to beat. I really love my Formula with the White on Charcoal though.

Re: Best Looking Formula
Personally i dont like either years of the formulas. I like the 87-90 Look, but hate the bumpers. I Like the ground effects on the 91-92 and the rear bumper, but hate the giant annoying front. I dont know for me a lose lose. But if i had to choose id choose the 91-92

Yeah, the bumpers are the only thing that hurts the looks of the 87-90.

Re: Best Looking Formula
I have a few of each styles and I like them both with a lean to the older ones.
I have a black car so the bumpers dont stick out and smack you in the face.
Its just a period correct styling cue that was used on more than just one brand.

'87-'90 for me. The bumperette's have grown on me and blend away anyway on a black car. I never have liked the '91-'92 nose, they visually just look to long. Not only that but I don't like the airbag steering wheel either. Couple that with an SD system that's finicky and I'll take my '89 anyday.

Re: Best Looking Formula
c-mon guys of course the current formula owners will pick their own model. I really like the early model. I miss my 87. I never really liked the 91-92 front nose. Well I have owned it for 6 months now and it has grown on me. I really like it.

My vote is for the 91-92 although I love a black 87-90 because the fillers don't stick out like sore thumbs.

Re: Best Looking Formula
So whats needed to switch over? Headlight covers, bumper, bumper support and some wiring?
For the past few months I have been wanting to convert as well since my bumper needs repaint.

Bumper cover, Impact bar, Absorber, head light assemblies, support brackets, blinkers, wiring...so yeah you pretty much had your list of parts correct.

Re: Best Looking Formula
Overall I prefer the '87-'90 style.
I don't really like the front bumper cover of either style, but I think the earlier style fits the car better(as it should, considering that's how the 1982 Trans Am was originally created to look).
The bumperettes of the earlier Formula aren't attractive(but at least they aren't too noticeable on black cars). Other than that, the general shape of the nose and its lines work well with the headlights and the hood. I think the bumper cover should've been smooth(no bumperettes[remove them and fill in the space flush]), the way a TA's is above its gfx(basically an '85-'90 TA nose without gfx). The designers probably sketched one up, but thought it looked too plain. But bumperettes? Seriously, plain would've been better than that.
As for the non-gfx bumper of the later Formulas, I think it looks too long, and its lines, or lack thereof, don't compliment the headlights or hood like the earlier nose does. The nose looks stuck-on. It looks good with aftermarket hoods though. The more molded-looking gfx nose looks much better(and has foglights); it just needed to be made without gfx.
Like the earlier front, the bumperettes on the rear aren't attractive either. The later year rear bumper cover is smooth and more attractive.
I like the "whale tail" rear spoiler a lot, much better than the later years' flat spoiler.
I don't like that both styles lack foglights.
Inside, I definitely don't like the airbag steering wheel of the later years; the three-spoke leather wheel is the best. And I prefer the "GTA" door panels of the earlier years too, as well as the availability of the subwoofer system.
