Re: FEB. COTM Poll! (voting)

i like this cotm thred but i agree we need some variety but with that said maybe it just needs time to get more peolpe watching this and nominating other cars.a person will vote on there favorite car untill they see one they like more.i think catagories would be a good idea. as long as there was a work in progress one so maybe i could at least put a pic of mine up (ok not really). badnblk has been doing a great job with this so atleast there is a start and the mods or whoever can see what needs to be changed to make this happen.

I agree with you. Maybe on the homepage. JT could post a banner saying and dont forget to vote for the car of the month...voting found in the appearance section of the site...that'd work for me.

I don't think the homepage, or to have a homepage announcement, would be the place for most people to learn about COTM. If many people have their TGO link "favorited" like I do, I login directly to the message boards page, so I never even see the homepage unless I go there for a specific reason, such as for tech data or model year pics.

And just to have the topic within a particular forum, such as "Appearance...," as it is now, people won't see it unless they open that forum.

For everyone to see it/learn about it, I think there will have to be a specific forum, entitled "Car of the Month," added to the message boards page, and it should be the very first forum at the top of the message boards page, above the "Aftermarket Product Review" forum, sort of like the stickies at the top of each forum page.

Everyone visits the message boards page; they have to or they can't visit the specific forums. Even if someone logs in through a "favorited" forum, they'll still have to visit the message boards page to visit other forums. Likewise, if they login through the homepage, they'll have to visit the message boards page to visit the forums. So by having a "Car of the Month" forum as the first forum on the message boards page, people can't overlook it. Even if they're not looking for it, they'll still see it.

Edit: It's a little late now, but I've deleted, what was, the last paragraph of this post. It seemed to begin an off-topic discussion about the site, and that was not what I'd intended to do.

I think it would be ok, but I don't speak for anyone but myself.
Thats actually one of the few things I really don't like about TGO. I really wish this site was a little more "personal" and at least had a BS section so we could chat with each other about off topics. I know on LS1tech, I have made quite a few "freinds" I guess you could say, just by BSing with guys that have similiar interests or builds as me. It really helps the community I think and opens up the claminess a bit. In fact, I'm pretty sure this is the only forum I have ever been a member on that doesn't have a BS section or a general chat area. Theres really no other third gen forum to go on where you can just BS with fellow owners.

LS1tech is also an excellent technical data source regardless of the more "laid back" forum set up, and I can't see how having a BS area would hurt the original intentions of the forum at all.

But again, I also speak for myself. Just my .02 cents.

Agree 100%. Some more grown up sites even have a 18yr old plus section where you can speak like a ADULT with notty words, hard core ribbing and such. There are soooo many on here that just cant take the heat..
I dont see the prob with trying some new things and if they dont work get rid of them...
I guess this site will just continue the way it is... Kinda like the small town I live in.. never changes

I feel like an old man saying, I remember when TGO had an offtopic section. I also remember when it was shut down.

Re: FEB. COTM Poll! (voting)

Wow I was gone for a couple days and the conversation on here got serious! I'm glad that there is discussion about this. There is so many things that could/should be touched on, but I don't feel like typing a book right now.

Thanks to everyone that has taken the time to reply and use the system here... Something had to be tried, and now we can see the areas of flaws. We can see that there is genuine intrest in the subject. That is what the best part of our COTM experiment has been.

I said that I would not make another COTM thread, but also said that it would hopefully return, and we are in talks and there is very rough plan at this point on what to do.

I agree completely that the COTM thread is focused on modified... wether it be Camaro, or Firebird. I feel this is mainly due to the section I put it in. This section has the most traffic/post so only made sense. I feel for system like the one we are currently using it will need to "advertised" or put into its own section to see that broader spectrum of thirdgens JT is wanting to make happy. As of right now I can see that there is flaws in the system, and not being a mod myself or having the power to enforce rules about the subject makes it very tough to make a system that is gonna make everyone happy.

Ramair21 - I'm gonna say it... That is a really cheap way to garner votes. especially when making threads on the same site. As someone else said that this is the "interwebs" ,and there is no specific rules saying that you cannot do so. You have have technically done no wrong, but I would feel that it would mean more to you to have your peers vote you to a winner without asking for votes. If I have any part of the future of the COTM (which I hope I do) this will be a problem that will be solved.

Guys just be excited that we have the attention of the site and here we all are talking about improving it. Hopefully we make some steps to making the site a better site with some baby steps here.

For the record Ramair21 DID NOT make the thread about the voting. Another Nor cal member and moderator for that part of the board did. So please do not hold that against him when voting. he didnt really know he was in the running until such thread was made. so he did not try to get votes. And if everyone on that part of teh board voted. he'd have a ton more votes.

I appologize to Ramair21, and I'm sure he can see why people would be irritated about people campaining SP? for votes.

His car is sick and doesn't need anyone "voting it up" for a win, and if the amount of people that nominated his car is any clue to the ratio, then his votes are probably legit.

Wow, yeah, definitely take a step back before making any claims, BADNBLK. I'd edit that response.

Ramair21 had 0 idea of this thread/poll unil I brought attention to it. Somebody outside of CA nominated him in the first place.

As pointed out already, Texas followed suit with a similar thread and they have 2 cars right behind his in the voting, so call it what you will.

Back on topic, it's a great idea, drums interest in the cars and getting to see some of the really nice ones. Glad it will be continuing and I'm sure after this month the voting process will simmer down.

Maybe the winner gets their car featured on the front page of the website for the month? Haha, just a thought.

Can't really edit what has been quoted, but not the point, as I appologized. I read a bunch of posts this morning, and made a reply with out doing my own investigation of facts. I still think it sucks that threads were made, when a pm advising a member that they have been nominated would suffice. It is politics one way or another to improve one chance of winning. You as a MOD that created the thread should understand that more than most. There was/is no rule saying that you cannot do it... so whatever I guess. Again sorry for getting grumpy butt on Ramair21.

i was the one that nominated him first cause i love the look of is car.i also sent him a pm asking if there was a build thread or something that i could see more details of his car to help others decide how to vote and i told him i nominated him for the cotm.so outatime is right im not livin in cali but thats where im from i also said that in my pm, this had zero input towards my voting.

+1 but when you consider the maturity levels and how easily people get "butt hurt" on this board it is expected.... sad really. I guess a fantastic car being nominated just doesn't help the self esteem of some people in the region enough so they desperately try to help that car win. I'm just happy to see a great bunch of cars in one thread I don't care if they are from Iran. Its TGO COTM not TGO - region/friends of the month.

I dont think some of you guys could handle a real "off topic" section you would be crying day and night

that exactly how it should be - now a thread begging for votes a region/friend basis is not cool, a link that says go vote for your favorite? sure go for it - if people choose to vote on a friend/region basis that is their decision

Ohhhhhhh.....Is that a dare? I think we need to give it a shot now just to see who is tough enough to take it on!

If the street racing section is any indication of how an off topic section would be, then I agree there will be many "butt hurt" members haha.

As long as I'm guaranteed not to be banned it sure is!

I think there is good reason to NOT have a lounge/off topic section on TGO - I honestly don't support the idea but I'll play ball if it happens!

It was made for Joey but no begging was done by anyone especially not Ramair21. His car is deserving as well as other members of california/across the nation. I hope this will remain a monthly thing. But we will see.

I am in nor cal and saw the post in our section. For myself I did look at all the cars up for ROTM and in my opnion his car was the best, so I voted for him. I think we should keep the ROTM going because looking at awesome 3rd gens is one reason I am on here! Good luck to all the cars up for it, I hope mine is someday!

How about COTM with a theme. You could have one month be modified firebirds, then the next stock camaros, and so on.

I only found out about COTM because of the NorCal thread. I havent check this section in years.

Re: FEB. COTM Poll! (voting)

I like this the way it is. The active people nominate their favorite rides and the most votes out of every ride wins that month. Keep it simple. Remember that this is peoples choice and the people don't like plain stock third gens, that has been made pretty clear by now from all the nominations that made it to the month poll.

As far as the the site getting more laid back, I doubt that will happen. I always felt a serious theme with the site, then again its flooded with people wanting to make their 305 fast or new owners that can't get simple things fixed. Then again theres a reason why i visit countless other forums other than just this one.

Re: FEB. COTM Poll! (voting)

It would be really nice to get visibility for ROTM on the front page of the site.

I also wanted to say that it felt great to see a picture of my Trans Am nominated in the COTM for January. I wish my car made it to the voting stage, but it's still awesome that somebody remembered my car and thought it was worthy of nominating. That's especially true since only a few Firebirds have been nominated in a Camaro dominated board (which is understandable, since they outsold the Firebird 2-1).

I like that the cars had to be nominated by another person because otherwise everyone just posts pictures of their own car. I also wouldn't want to see campaigning going on in the future. To me, it'd be an empty title if my car were to win and it was only because it had more advertising than the other cars.

Re: FEB. COTM Poll! (voting)

i think this is a great idea....
moderators have to deside how many mods in stock...to street...to modified
carb engine vs lsx,etc
we put our pictures where your car classifies as
then once a month we all chose i...what ever class it is for the month we all chose and review the list and make our choice.

some guys spend years preserving there cars
some guys spend years modifing or customizing there cars
some guys have huge wallets and have the best of the best

nothing wrong with it...this will just make it fair
i love the original idea...but i am just tyring to help with ideas

i vote sickness for feb
