Hey Kat, now show everyone the rest of your car

And un4givin89 I can see how Kat can be confused for a girl, anorexically thin, and the ponytail...

hehe Phil bite me

As for the weights I am chasing down a vibration problem in my car. Putting the weights on the outside and inside the rim give it a better ballance That rim in the pic is the bent one Hence where all the vibrations that I have in my car are coming from. So Stu DRIVE YOUR CAR and actually get some dirt on it

As for the polsihing the rims Tech artcile whats that?! I did it all with a palm sander using various grits of wet sand paper and a wool buffing wheel on a drill woth some mothers. BTW I did them over a year ago

-=tech=-

How I did was I stripped them with some air craft paint remover. Not the spray on kind but the brushed on gel stuff.

Let the stripper sit on there for about 15 - 20 min. Once the clear coat starts lifting I scrapped most of it off with a plastic scraper. If some spots are stubborn apply some more stripper to that aera and let sit for a few more min.

Wash the rim off with high pressure hose.

Did that to all 4 rims with the tires still on them.

Once I was all done that I went out and got 2 assortred wet/dry sand paper packets

I cut the 240 grit to fit my palm sander and attached it to the the sander.

Then wet the wheel down with the hose and started sanding the rim with a light mist of water spraying on the rim to keep it lubiricated. Make sure ya dont fry yerslef.

After I got done with the 240 grirt,(you'll be using that grit for a long time. Thats how I got rid of most of the ridges on the rim.) Then I switched to 400 then to 600 then to 800 then to a 1000 then to 1500.

Wash the rim really good and break out the drill with a wool buffing wheel(you can get it at pep boys for a few bucks) and some mothers aluminum and mag wheel polish and smeared it onto the buffing wheel.

Take your time buffing.. It also helps if ya have a spray bottle with water in it to spray the rim when the mothers dries up.

Do the buffing thing a few times

Then wash the rim with some dawn or other grease cutting agent. Make sure whatever ya use is safe for aluminum. I used Castrol super clean on them a few months later and I was buffning them back out again.

As for painting I just taped off what I buffed out and srayed the color I wanted on there and then sprayed a liberal amount of clear coat onto the paint

Any quesstions?

Kat

Polishing? Here you go.

These are 98TA wheels, they are NOT chrome.. they came with the bland silver flake powdercoat(which as you can see was completely removed)..

I did ALOT of work with some aircraft remover and A LOT of wetsanding by hand.. Only power tool was a drill to do the polishing.

Kat, is this better? 16" IROC rim, polished, with a 255/50/16 Comp TA. Baer 12" Sport system with cross drilled/zinc/slotted rotors. Bell Tech 2" drop spindle.

The minute someone makes a 88-90 IROC rim in 17x9, it is mine!

Omar: How much those brakes run, and are they a direct bolt in? I mean, do they not require any mods, and are they for front only or front and back? How many pistons are those calipers?

Yeah it is man I litterally live 2 blocks down the street where they suposively found anthrax today. If ya goto Pep Boys in Brookhaven ask for a guy named Mike with the red 85 Z28 to work on yer car. I've know him for about 11 years now and he is a damn good mechanic.

Omar I love that.. Hopefully one day my car will sit about that low I like how it shows a lil bit of the wheel well and it doesnt make the car look like that it cant even take a pebble as a bump without the car scraping. I gotta ask was the brake install hard at all? One day when I get a real job I was thinking about getting the Baer kit for the RS.

Thanks for the compliments. The install was very easy, and I did do it myself. The only special tool would probably be a 4Ib hammer, or, in other words, a small sledge hammer.

I bought both the front and rear package, for a combined $2500. This price does include some upgrades, such as the rotors being crossdrilled, zinc washed, and slotted. They offer their calipers in basic colors, and polished. I ordered the polished version.

ONE VERY IMPORTANT NOTE!

If you are thinking of Baer Brakes and Belltech drop spindles for your car, you might as well get the drop spindles from Baer. Their front brakes come completely built on front spindles. So if you have Bell tech's already, Baer sells you another set, and they do NOT accept a core return. They will, however, accept a core return on STOCK spindles.

So minus the extra's I just mentioned, it would be about $2000 overall. About $1200 for the front's, and $800's for the rear. Keep in mind that this price is for the 12" Sport System with PBR dual piston calipers. If you have 17" rims, I would go with their 13" Track System.
