Chrome IROC rims

I just got some 17x8 chrome IROC rims for my car. I was wondering what the best product would be to clean them ? My buddy recommeneded Windex. Will that work ?

Also if anyone knows... what's the widest tire I can throw on these ? I heard 275 is alright and 295 is pushing it. Any thoughts ?

I wouldnt go past 245 width personally. 255 max. as far as cleaning them, just use soap and water. the dirt and brake dust will rinse off of them

Be sure to wax them too. Mine IROC wheels still look like the chrome is almost brand new after almost 10 years since I had them done. The wax doesn't just protect, it also makes them clean easier, and shine more. I use Wax Shop liquid wax on them, real simple and quick. You can also use a chrome polish every now and then if you really think you need it, but I've never had to use it on mine. My car sat outside in the Northwest weather and was my daily driver until it became a garage queen in '99.

Chevy High Performance has an article about wheel/tire sizes for Camaros in the January '02 issue. For a thirdgen they say max tire size on a 17" wheel is 275/40 for both front and rear.

...but is that for an 8 inch wide rim? It might be ok for a 9 inch wide rim. I dont think you will be happy with your results if you put a 275 on 8 inch wheels. The sidewall of the tire will be hanging way past the edge of your wheel

According to the magazine that is for the max width wheel which is 9.5" with 5.5" back spacing front and back.

I have 245/50s on my RS which are pretty wide in my opinion. How wide are my 16" '91-'92 Z28 wheels?

I used a diluted windex/water combination on them last night and it worked pretty damn well. The almost non existent brake dust washed right off. It's a lot easier then cleaning aluminum wheels that's for sure ! ehehe
