Yup,i want 500hp to the wheels,i am thinking of building a mean 355 with an underhood blower,i think its possible and the numbers are rather practicle,a nice 355 by itself can give you 400hp the wheels, that blower should help out alot too, anyone have a sbc recipe for 500hp to the wheels? Thanks guys for the compliments on the wheels,i think they go quite well with the car, things seem to match, anyone got any dislikes besides having an anemic 305 in my ride?Hey yellowiroc2,i like your car besides the raised yellow letter tires(i am not the first guy to tell you the scoop),the wheels are sweet,i want to see more yellow irocs, where is mean yellow z?,i think that is the nicest yellow iroc i have seen, someone post a pic of that ride.

This engine put out 520 at the motor, so it would be less at the wheels but still close. It's carbed though. It's not my recipe but one from the August Car Craft

ZZ4 short block
AFR 195 heads
Edelbrock Victor Jr. Intake
Barry Grant Speed Demon carb
1 3/4 headers (SLP or Hooker Super Comps)
Comp Cams Xtreme Energy XR280R cam

RPM range was about 3000-7000
You'd need a 3000 stall and 3.73 or 4.11 gears to take advantage of it.
There are some special clearance and assembly issues that they went into detail about.
It makes only 9" of vacume at idle, so you'd need a vacume pump.
It made plenty of torque, but you'd still need gears and a 3000 stall to take advantage of it.

Any time you plan on making a 350 produce these kinds of numbers, you give up streetability. It would be a better plan to build a 383 or get a Motown 427 smallblock. Both are cpable of producing 500 at the motor easily. With a supercharger, the 383 easily gets there. I think compression is too much on the Motown for a blower, but Hot Rod's test mule made 545 hp and 482 lb/ft, getting you your 500 rwhp or damn close.

Thanks for the info,i have thought about a 383,i know the 383 and 355 can ge over 450hp at the crank,i figure one of these motors with a blower should do nicely,450 to 500 hp at the wheels is what i want,as long as i can beat a viper, that is my true goal, but the need for speed never ends, faster and faster i will want to go,speed cost money,i want to keep my motor under 4k,i plan to use AFR heads for sure, they seem to be the best for the money,i want the car to run on pump gas and be streetable,it will be a weekend warrior for the street/strip,i cant wait!

Yea, I was going to give the AFR dyno sheet as well. 500 with a blower is possible, hell off blower it's probably possible, but I couldn't imagine how hard. I had thought you said 500 rear on motor.

Well, I hate to burst your bubble, but there is no way you are going to build an AFR headed, blown small block in the $4,000 range. The heads and blower alone would cost that. Add $1,000 for the roller cam set up. You will need a GOOD bottom end to support the blower, which is easily another $1,500-$2,000. Then add in machine work. That can range from $1,500 to wherever you want it to. Mine is a straight motor, carburated motor and I have $4,500 in it.

Heh, didn't even see the 4k part. Aren't AFR heads about 1700?

Blower 3K. Shot right over that one.

In CHP they made a 515 hp 406. They call it son of mouse. Add a nitrous to that you have a Monster.

The 520 horse 350 I posted was put together for about $5500, so since a magazine did it, add in about $500 more for little parts and unexpected stuff. They also did the assembly themselves to keep cost down. AFRs are between $1400-$1700. To make as much power as you want and expect it to last, you're looking at at least $5k and probably $6k.

i thought you lose like 20% horsepower during the transfer from the crank to the wheels. in that case, you would need over 600hp at the crank to reach your 500hp at the wheels goal. i could be way off though.

I think it around 15% for a standard and 20% for an automatic.

Not true in my case,i have found a blown 355 that is totally new and unassembled, over 6k in parts, the guy has it for 3k,its an underhood blower, the engine has forged pistons, steel crank, and AFR heads ,it should have 450-500hp to the wheels ,i am looking at it this week,i definately have got lucky, its that time of year to buy cars and parts, everything is so cheap, people need money for Christmas and not to mention the economy is poor.
