Window Louver Resto

So after searching for quite some time i finally found some '86 rear window louvers.
cost was 80$ and came with all hardware but 1 bracket.
These are for my semi recently wrecked 1983 Frankenstein z28 styled car, which the PO had installed an '86 style hatch on.

so while i collect parts for the front end rebuild (almost done) i decided to try my hand at these louvers. i painted another set for my '91 louvers i get for 50$ and they turned out decent but i wanted to do a little better this time and affordable as possible

Ill be adding pics of this as it goes. but heres the process.
get louvers/hardware
scrub down... 25+ years on louvers isnt pretty
paint... base/clear.. Rustoleom black enamel with enamel crystal clear.
between 4 and 6 cans total

price breakdown
louvers...80$
scotch bright and steel wool.. attained from work but lets say 15$
paint.... 25$
120$.. how can i lose?
Ill post pics tonight and I look forward to your opinions.

Re: Window Louver Resto

The louvers were not gloss black so you might want to hold off on the clear. They were a satin black. I used Duplicolor Trim Black paint and it's almost an exact match to original.

Re: Window Louver Resto

and thats what i did on my 91 is use an epoxy enamel and it turned out great. but my 83 is white and a high gloss. so i figured if it didnt work out, i could just strip them down.

Re: Window Louver Resto

now im going to refinish to match some chrome peeling rims. think a wire brush will work well enough to strip and rough up the wheels?

I would need them for an 87, without a brake light.
