Re: When do you put your car away for winter?

Well i usually put it away during the times of them salting the roads,But this year is different.Im rebuilding the motor so after it was pulled,I pushed it to the back yard and parked it outside my window (Mom Called dibs on the garage for her precious Mazda) Today i pulled the tires off and set it on jack stands.=[ It sucks. Now im stuck with driving around my 500 Dollar beater car. 2001 Grand Marquis Gs. 287,000 miles.Needs a new timing chain, all new suspension, paint job,Exhaust, and a whole lotta love. Haha. So far ive repainted the roof, bought some HARDCORE hub caps for it,put in a new stereo, Detailed the interior, and fixed the exhaust and one Strut and A arm,WHich we will NEVER do again! And painted the grill

Heres the BEAST

UP here in Northern Michigan I put my 87' vert away 2 weeks ago but if we dont use salt any time soon and we get some nice 50 degree days with sun, I may just pull her back out of the barn for nice brisk top down ride !!

Looks like you got your wish. It'll be 60 here in Detroit this weekend. Time to burn the old rubber off these wheels. Give me an excuse to get something new in spring.

Re: When do you put your car away for winter?

Took mine over to storage yesterday. Cleaned and polished it a week or so ago, put some stabil in the tank and off it went. Always a sad day knowing it will probably be five months or so before driving it again.
I will have to get it out of storage before that to replace the pinion seal in the rear end.
The good side of not being able to use our "fun cars" all year is that come spring it is almost like having a new car again.

Re: When do you put your car away for winter?

I've got 1 tire of a different brand on my Camaro LOL, summer traction here, 90% of the time its sunny in California that's one of the reasons why everybody envies us if we want snow well the f body doesn't like it so its not relevant, but I actually hate driving my f bodys in summer here in L.A. and I drive my Nissan or Mercedes when in summer or rain, because when it gets hot your angry your sweaty your in a bad mood so I actually like to bring the f body out during Spring, Fall and Winter like the day after it rains or when its foggy and a chilly 60 degrees. But I never drive it in rain. Whenever I drive it its on a cool day with sun or with clouds between 77 degrees & 50 degrees. But no rain and no Summer heat. It hardly ever snows here in the city of Los Angeles, but it has been known to snow in Malibu or the Santa Monica / Local hillside areas. I'm not a big fan of snow and that's why I Love my Hometown of L.A. if I want snow I can drive up to go see it like Big Bear, it doesn't come to me when I don't want it

Had it put away this weekend but had to get it back out when my dd lost the exhaust on the way home from school. Hopefully it'll be covered by next week, 40 degrees and no heat sucks!

Re: When do you put your car away for winter?

i wish i could, nothing else to drive, not a problem here in sunny OHIO though haha, but i can say atleast the past few winters it hasn't been bad enough that i couldn't drive the maro in it safely, alot of people act like inclement weather is a death sentence in these things, isn't much of a big deal to me

Re: When do you put your car away for winter?

When we lived in Florida, nothing got put away, except for when a hurricaine was coming. We were known to make a yearly family lake trip for a New Year's day of water sking. Mid 80's are not uncommon. Perfect year round weather for a thirdgen.

When we moved back to our home state of Georgia, specifically south GA, the winters are usually in the 40's to 60's and sunny during the daytime. 28 to 30 at night was the norm, and it snows once every 10 years or so. The t-tops did not come off much in the winter, but there was no reason not to drive the TA all year around.

We have been living in the North Carolina mountains for 12 years. It averages 70 inches of snow each year here. Often the snow falls and builds up over the winter. During the winter of 2010 we kept 20 inches of snow in the yard for 2 months. It was almost up to the hood on the 86WS6, so driving it was out of the question. Our winter AWD Expedition leaves three tracks in the snow, two from the tires, and one from the skid plate. Watching what 10 years of road salt has done to that SUV, it would make me sick to see that happen to my thirdgens.

If your thirdgen is your daily driver, then you have no other choice, but to drive it, and enjoy it. It is a car after all. Since I am old, have worked a long time, have been lucky, and do have a choice, I would much rather see that SUV rust to pieces than to see the 82WS7 and the 86WS6 meet that fate. Winter is the perfect time to do maintenance and detail work on the cars since they are sitting around doing nothing. Our weather up here is good until mid December, than we usually start getting regular snow. About April the snow will have been melted for over a month, and we will have had enough rain to wash the road salt away. It will be time to get the TA's out and get back to having fun with them.

Re: When do you put your car away for winter?

There was a time here in Detroit in mid October where it was raining and 40 for a week. Put it away because I didnt expect it to get warm again.

Here we are on Thanksgiving and its 60 degrees and sunny and my car is away for the winter.

I didn't put it away until Nov 30th last year.

Put mine away today. Took the battery out, put it on the charger till spring. She's in my garage, unheated, but at least she's indoors.
