best polish/wax for black car?

From your own experiences what is the best wax and polish for my black Camaro, excluding Zaino?

Well although most will probably say Zaino, I was very suprised and impressed with AmourAlls Diamond Hard Shine wax. Easy on, easy off and no swirls. My friend has a black '96 Imapla SS and is very picky about products and stuff like. We got some free samples from the Auto Show so he tried it even though he highly dislikes AmourAll. Now it's all he and I use 2 wax our cars. It may not be the best, but it's very good and easily available.

Black Widdow.....I have tried everything from 3M to Mothers Polish/Wax for my baby. I know that you are saying everything excluding Zaino, but in my experience, I tried Zaino last month and I must say, this is by far the best polish out there. I was a big skeptic going into this, but I am glad I tried Zaino. This stuff is amazing because I also applied some to my mom's black 4runner and a week later it rained. Well, I was pissed that my mom drove the car in the rain after all the time I took to prep her car....but the morning after, I looked at the car and no stains at all!!!!!
Only the rims and tires had hints that they were dirty, but the fenders, hood, door sides had no water marks what so ever! I am now a firm believer. Also....check out this
oic of my baby...after 11 years this is how the paint looks after Zaino:

This pic was taken one week after application....look at that fuken shine! Also, Zaino removes the fine scratches from the paint! The stuff is kinda expensive but well worth it!!!!!!!!!

For the price, I think Zymol and Meguars Gold Glass are the best.

It's more of how you use it, than what you use. And what needs to be done. I have never tried Zaino, and I'm a firm believer of 3M products, but while working along side another person, I found out that you really need to know how to apply what you are using, and how bad the paint is. You can't use rubbing compound and just wax. You need to do a complete, step by step job. Otherwise you're just half a$$ing it.

I just polished my car for the first time since it's been painted. Actually, I'm still in the process. I also bought a pretty nice Digital Camera which should be here in the next few days. I'll take some pictures.

BTW, I used zaino. You can't just count the best out. If you would rather use a credit card instead of going through the whole mail order process use Ecklers catalog. They'll sell by credit card. They cost a little more though.

Check the list of what a friend of mine (from an old car club) does to his car...and yes, he is *very* **** about his paint.

1) Meguiar's Deep Crystal Wash
2) Meguiar's Show Car Glaze
3) Meguiar's Yellow Wax
4) Meguiar's Hand Polish
5) Meguiar's Swirl Remover
6) Meguiar's Final Inspection (detail)

probably takes half a day to do all of that, but his car is just like a mirror

..amen to that!

Eagle Wet One works well for an off the shelf wax. 3M makes some that is good and Meguiars Professional line in the yellow bottles is very good.

I will say even though you did not want to hear it Zaino is the stuff.

Here's my 2 cents. I've tried Dupli-Color black wax (ok), and your basic rain dance, also ok, but the best by far has been Mother's 3 step. Yeah, it's a lot of work but the car looks like black glass for at least a month. The stuff hides most swirl marks from the awful automatic car washes. I only repeated the process 1 more time all summer.

I used the Zaino process on my 93 Pace Car and it helped the paint look and feel better, but it was a pain to use with all the decals so I haven't reused it on any other cars. I did the same 3 step process on my 01 truck and was very impressed with the outcome. The difference between the truck and the 93 was that I used Wizards Polish on the truck after using the clay bar. For $14 a bottle, it was expensive, but I like it. The shine is phenomenal, it was easy on/off, and it's durable. Again, I'll agree with whoever said that it all depends on how you apply/remove it. Wizards is probably comparable to Zaino in quality and price. The results are also comparable.

I used some stuff called PloyGlycoat yesterday, borrowed it from somebody. I only did the hood. It worked ok, looks good I guess, but it could be better. How much does Zaino cost? I know you have to mail order it. Any more suggestions?

I'm on my third Coat of Z5 (zaino) right now. Going to keep adding more until end of thanksgiving holidays. There is a good and a bad. It shines very good (but my paint is only four months old) and I'm assuming with be durable. The downside is, even though it's a upside at the same time is that it is although slowly hiding my swirl marks. In the process, the paint becomes perfectly clear... Welll, my car has never been wetsanded or buffed and has the orange peel effect in some areas and some minor trash here and there. Before the zaino you would have never noticed. You can tell a mile away now. So I guess I can say it's too clear. Still waiting for my camera to get here... I'll take pictures.

you should've used a polishing compound such as 3m Product # 39009 first before zaino... with a buffer an foam pad. that'll remove 95% of swirls and will hide some imperfections in the paint.
but like all things... polish can't hide bad bodywork :/

stillt hough... zaino is the best you can get.

I just paid 143$ for mine. Here it is...

1 bottle of Z-1 (will last you over a year)
2 bottles of z-5 (after the 3rd coat, I'd be surprised if I've used 1/5 of the bottle.
2 Z-6 (haven't used any yet, brother had some laying around)
3 Z-7 Haven't used yet, brother had some laying around. Go through this very fast though
1 Z-12 Didn't work as good as I liked. DID pull all water spots out with ease though
1 z-14 This used with Z-5 and Z-6 made my taillights look brand new.
1 Z-18 Didn't help, paint is around four months old. Was in great condition, pulled minor trash out which I never saw (that's a good thing) and worked well on whatever was on my back bumper. Made it very smooth so made polish easier.

Total as stated: 143$
This is enough to last me probably 2 years though. Atleast a year. Seeing as they say you only have to do it twice a year.

www.zainobros.com if you haven't already checked them out.

The initial cost is high, but once you have everything you need, you're set for a long time, so the long-term cost balanced out to be about the same as with a cheaper product. I don't know how much Ions91Z28 is using, but if he goes through all that in a year, he's probably using too much hehe.

Heh, follow the LS1.com boards... Many of those use Z5 weekly. If not more. One person has 120+ coats on there. I figure you can get around 15-20 uses on a z5 bottle being pretty abusive on how much you use as well. Every five Z-5s comes a coat of Z1. Needless to say, this stuff last you ALONG time. Z7 does wonders for me. Others say it does nothing, but to me, the Z5 didn't shine enough until that Z7 hit it. I'm getting my Digital Camera in soon, I'll have pictures of it.

Its a two stage wax I bought a discount use the precleaner then put the wax on and leave it to set in the sun for atleast 6 hours rub it all off then put a second coat on for one hour then take it all off and watch it shine it sounds like a crazy technique but it works great!! Happy cleaning.

What you "need" is the Z1 and Z2. You can use Z5 in place of the Z2 if your car has a lot of swirl marks.

The Z6 is also nice to have but not needed. It is just a spray detailer/enhancer. The Z7 car wash is pretty nice stuff if you want to spend the cash for it. What is nice about the car wash is the fact it won’t strip the polish that is on the car off like a lot of conventional soaps will.

Follow the directions and use very sparingly!
