My Iroc is going to get body work along with a new paint job soon. I really like the sunset orange color from the 4th gens. However I have only seen one car this color.

Im torn between this color and brilliant red.

Anyone have pics of camaros or firebirds with this color or similiar burnt orange colors?

 

This color was always a favorite of mine. I'll be reapinting my car in a color close to that.

I did have a Sunset Red Metallic Cutlass back in the day.

 

I like the burnt orange much better !!!! I've seen a new corvette that color too,, looked really nice!!

 

the third gen up top is a friends and looks amazing pictures do not do it justice he has a SS hood too on it and at night it looks a maroon red but daylight you just want to keep staring at it

 

This is the same paint code as the 2002 Trans Ams.

 

That color gives me blue *****. Just sayin'.

Here is mine, enjoy. Just an FYI the color Sunset Orange was offered in 1988 on Thirdgens. But is was called Medium Orange Metallic then. One year only. It is the exact same paint code.

The color varies ALOT. From a bright orange to copper to a maroon. Look heavy_chevy29 and then scroll down to quadgoat then to burnout88. Is this due to lighting/camera or possibly different bases?


burnout88 I didnt know that. My 88 iroc is medium orange. It was repainted a couple of years back, no telling what paint code, maybe thats why it doesn't look as nice as SOM. Mine is more of a brownish.

 

its mostly a lighting/angle thing. i painted my r6 atomic orange and it does the same thing. i painted mine over a black base. i dont think it makes a huge difference, its just what i had at the time.

 

Buggy diaster I put my car right next to a "sunset orange" Camaro and it is exactly the same color. No difference. Who ever painted your car screwed up the mix on the paint or it is a low quality paint job. But it should look exactly the same as SOM.

 

Heavy Chevy29. I researched before seing your reply and read that the base doesn't play a big role in this type of paint. So your right, it makes a minimal difference.


Burnout, the paint job is a single stage, so it doesn't have clear coat. Plus it is a low quality job. Can this color even be shot in a single stage?

 

The medium orange paint on your IROC is beautiful, and somewhat rare. In fact, I cannot say I have EVER seen a medium orange IROC in person.

Put on the gold decal and stripe package... it will look so nice.

For you guys that have SOM cars; Would you say the color is more of an orange or brown?

 

My car is more way more orange then brown.

 

Here's my 86, it was repainted about 10 years ago. I like this color a lot, I never see it and it gets a lot of compliments.

 

I'll admit that, despite giving the PPG guys the exact paint code for sunset orange metallic, I'm not completely convinced my car really is the exact same color as a factory GM painted SOM car. Mine seems a bit lighter. I would prefer if it was a bit darker, but despite that I do really like the color of my car. I would definitely call it much more orange than brown, although with no clear coat on it, it sure did look brown!!



Once we laid down the clear it really popped! The guy who sprayed it for me gave me a pretty funny look when he got done laying down the color...like "really? You want this thing brown??" LOL It came out great in the end though!!
