Window Louvers? Opinions and pics?
A kid that lives near me needs some cash and told me he would sell me his window louvers off of an 84 camaro for 25 bucks. He told me they should fit my car 88. I have looked at local junk yards but can't find any. There is no rust but they would need a fresh coat of paint. Would it look good and be worth my time and 25 bucks to get them? Does anybody have some pics of window louvers on there car? Thanks.

My opinion is they are ugly, but on some FEW cars, I have liked them.

i agree with MetalliCamaroRS. I had them on my car, but they did not look right so i took them off. Just put them on and if you like the way they look, buy them. If you dont like it, just dont buy them.
It really depends on the car, the brand of the louvers and the condition. Unless the louvers you're looking at are factory pieces and are ALUMINUM, you're getting raped. The last set of ABS ones I had I gave away to get them out of the garage. From personal experiance I can tell you louvers aren't really worth it, a nice tint job looks much better and doesn't have the problems that louvers impose.
I'll list a couple pro's and con's of louvers...
Pros:
1) keeps light out
2) keeps people from looking in
3) adds a bit of contrast to the car.
4) umm... thats it...
Cons:
1) They scratch the glass
2) they scratch the hatch frame
3) they rattle, buzz, etc
4) they have to be removed to clean the glass
5) if you deal with snow, its impossible to clean off the window with louvers
6) they break and fly off driving down the highway in high winds *in my case landing in a farmers field*
7) they look tacky and "70's" "80's" ish.
8) they make it more difficult to see out the back
9) they add weight
10) they cost money that could be spent elsewhere.
decide for yourself what you wanna do, tinting your windows costs a bit more, but will look better without any of the cons.

I don't like them, I saw this car yesterday that was just like mine, but it had the louvres. I did not like it at all, I think it looks to 70's or 80's.

Thanks for the info guys. They are aluminum so they aren't all that heavy. Is there any way to keep them from scratching the glass or outside of the hatch? I have the fake vents on my hood so I think they should look good on the back. Any other pics or opinions? Thanks again guys.

i have the factory ones, they dont scratch the glass or the hatch, they have rubber stops under the louvers to keep them off the glass and from making noises, and the back is notched out for the hatch part

The 70's are over....
Get the louvers and then go buy the biggest gold chain you can afford and learn to live with the snickers from all of your neighbors.

They make the car look like a hedgehog.
Seriously though, I HAVE seen some Camaros and Firebirds with them that have looked great. It's just personal preference. $25 seems good but do you really want to paint it?
