Advice

I have a straight up Trans am and have been running the GTA wheels since I had the car in the mid 90's. Ok so my question is would it be wrong to have the GTA emblems affixed when I get the car painted? I love the exterior look of the GTA because of their emblems over the trans am decals. So would it be lame if I did that since it originally wasn't manufactured as a true GTA?

Everybody will still know it's a phony if you don't change the fenders also.

Re: Advice

I would/did also resist the urge to mis-label it. I just had mine in paint/body and chose to stay true to my car's RS badging instead of going with Z28/IROC-Z labels. Seems more legit to show my car as a modified RS instead of a IROC/Z28 poser. Just my two cents.

Re: Advice

As an Iroc owner who sees this all the time, I have mixed emotions.

When I see, for example, a '69 z-28 clone, I see a car that is pretty uncommon, and financially out of reach for most of us, and the guy took his money, his car, and made what he wanted. These guys will also be pretty up front about the fact that it's a clone. Personally I wouldn't do it, but I understand it.

My personal opinion for the OP, it's a TA, not a GTA. Don't put GTA badges on it. TA's are awesome. Be proud of it being a TA. But...ultimately it's your car.

Re: Advice

I gotcha. I'm not going to do that but I might get red transam decals affixed after it's painted instead of the silver ones. I like the red on black look. Also I bought these for my black center caps that are intended for second generation T/A's. These will go on new black lace GTA rims.

That's news to me, I see alot of 1st gen Z28 and RS/SS clones being passed for originals at car shows and auctions and things.

I can understand the liking of a certain packages options/etc, but at the end of the day I personally have more respect to people who's cars are labeled as what they are (sport coupe, trans am, RS, whatever). Because at the end of that day that is exactly what it is. But it's your car, so you can make it what you want it to be.

Re: Advice

Hey RedLeader I agree with you and the guys here. I had the idea in my head but knew it wasn't right to do and probably never would of done it. I just wanted to hear how other fellow 3rd Gen lovers felt about it and my assumptions were spot on.

I don't know much about the firebird side of things, but I've always enjoyed how many sleeper RSs and Sport coupes are on this site.

Re: Advice

I personally think its best to stay true to what your car is.

It is kinda lame to see an Rs with IROC badges and iroc wheels. Its so unoriginal (no pun intended) most thirdgen camaros you see will have them and it gets pretty boring. The worst part is you dont only see them on thirdgens anymore. They make them for everything, Ive seen them on a minivan and a 5th gen.

At the end of the day its your car and if you want to make a GTA clone then do it.

Re: Advice

i needed a new front bumper cover, the aftermarket ones just kept on warping in the sunlight so i had to buy a used OEM bumper cover, the only available one in NJ (which was about an hour and a half away) was a GTA bumper cover with the holes drilled in it, so i was kinda stuck doing the GTA emblem in the front which meant i had to do that all over to match. not a super big fan of doing it but not going back lol

Re: Advice

thought I would make a comment about my own 91 R/S . I think the louver R/S grills are ugly , I changed mine . did not like double stripe wheels , changed to ZQ8 . I do have a hi-rise spoiler (I don't like it) . with all the up-grades I have done I feel my R/S is better than an IROC/Z28 . those are just the appearance up-grades . O.K. when I had my baby painted I wanted to be a little different . I searched and finally found 88 s/c silver/gray CAMARO side and bumper emblems . so mine just displays CAMARO . when a few people who know ask me about it , I do tell them it's an R/S but up-graded a bunch . my thought's , make your car your own . BUT , don't try and pawn it of as something it's not . good luck ...
