GTA with 17" Factory Mesh wheels

Take a look. Found this cool program and this what our cars will look like with the new Hawks 17" rims.

Re: GTA with 17" Factory Mesh wheels

Doesn't look precise to me. Those look more like 19" or 20" wheels in scale.

Here are the same size wheels on a Formula with 275/40ZR17 tires... you can barely see my 92 GTA with the stock 16x9 wheels in the background. I have another of them side by side, let me find it.

Turns out I don't have those scanned, they were part of physical images and negatives for a photo shoot for a book at the time. Here is my GTA next to the other Firehawk that was at the same shoot...and a pic of all 3 staged for the shoot, too bad my GTA is so far away in this shot you can't get a good comparison.

Re: GTA with 17" Factory Mesh wheels

Ok maybe youre right after looking at the formula. This editing program I found stated they are 17. With the attention to detail in the program I figured this was probably the closest I have seen.

Is there a way for the app to just scale them down a bit?

Re: GTA with 17" Factory Mesh wheels

I have a 3D 1991/1992 Trans Am GTA in Autodesk 123D Make. I'm trying to slowly make it more precise, I'll see if I can just scale up the factory rims by an accurate factor. The app is made for 3D printing so it's about as realistic to an actual physical representation as possible.

They should make these wheels in multiple sizes. I'd really prefer these in an 18 inch diameter.

are those 275/40s on the front and rear? stock springs (stock ride hight)? [Formula w/ Ronal wheels]

aaaand, those use some type of spacer for either the front or the back wheels, right?

What I like is they are subtle and it updates the look without being audaciously excessive.

I would bet you could take an otherwise stock 3rd gen to a car show and some people will realize there is something different but just-can't-figure-it-out-what-it-is...

Yes. Yes.

The Ronals do, on the front, on a non-1LE car.

Exactly. If/when 16" tires of a type that I like become unavailable, this will allow me to update to 17" wheels/tires, and keep my PW7 look. Name: beer.gif

If i may ask, exactly which tires are you referring to? I find it exceedingly difficult to find suitable tires in 245/50/16.

Well, as I said, "tires of a type that I like"...so that may mean I'm willing to accept some performance compromises others are not. You said "suitable". Again, what is suitable is going to be a personal choice for each buyer, based on performance needs, aesthetics, and cost.

I have driven my car in the rain. Got caught in a pretty good rain one of the nights leading up to the Woodward Dream Cruise. I don't seek it out, but I won't leave the car in the garage because there is a cloud in the sky somewhere over Michigan. So I consider wet traction important.

I'm also going to try and stretch the season when I can use the car. Getting it out as early as possible, and running it as late as possible in Michigan, means you may well be out when temps drop below 40*. So a tire with a compound that still has good grip when cold is important to me.

Wet and cold traction may not be factors to those avoid that type of driving, who are more track focused, or live in climates where these conditions are not an issue. But they mean a lot to me.

I current have Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus tires, and cannot imagine being much happier with them.

"suitable," to me, means an aggressive-looking, directional tread and a Z speed rating.
also, a wide footprint (as in some 245s appear narrower than others).

I could be wrong, but it seems like the stance would be better if the car were lowered an inch and a half - as is usually the case when switching from 16s to 17s.

For sure, I have the Eibach Pro springs on my car so these are going to look awesome. The Eibach Sportlines would have been too low for my personal taste.

That looks sooo good. I do agree that it needs a bit of a drop.
Id do 1" front an 3/4" ish in rear.
I dont like a car sitting on its bumpstops. They just look goofy and unusable to me.

Well, these are Z rated. And directional. As to width, I don't have anything to directly compare them to. For tread...any of the A/S tread tires are just not as aggressive looking as the old block-treaded Gatorbacks were, IMO. SO that might be a compromise you'd be comfortable with.

Re: GTA with 17" Factory Mesh wheels

I had Yokohama ES100's for about 10 years on my Car (took them off and they were still perfect inside & out from appearance but it was time for them to go)... I loved the way the Yokohama tires looked on the car, it looked like a race tire. I replaced them with Firehawk Wide Oval Indy 500 tires and am happy with the profile... Besides, what could go wrong with getting Firehawk tires on a Firebird.

Re: GTA with 17" Factory Mesh wheels

So, anybody know what the deal is with the offset? Is there still a front and back? Are the fronts still different than the rears? Lip the same size? Or are they like our stockers?

Reason I ask, I always preferred the look of fronts on all four. Is this that look?

And whats the widest tire that can be put on safely? I see 275 40's in the Formula pic. But can 295's fit the rear?
IMO 295 rear and a 275 front would be a nice combo.

To me, it looks like they have the same dish front and rear.
Hawks web site has the BS information listed.

THe offset is the same for all 4 wheels...

I have Eibach Sportlines on my GTA and I kinda wish my car sat just a little lower... I just wanna close-up the wheel gap a tad more. I had planned on getting these wheels custom made in an 18 inch diameter, but I'll definitely pick up a set of these 17 inch Hawk replicas instead since it will be a nice $6,000 cheaper option.

Re: GTA with 17" Factory Mesh wheels

Not sure if it would be a problem or not, I know my 9.5" wide rear wheels with tires would hit the fender going over bumps if I lowered it too much.

Had a friend with a Datsun 260Z, he had these wide tires on it and every time he hit a big bump the tires would rub on the fender lip... You could feel it slow down the car too when he did, it was like tapping the brakes.

WOW. I really thought there would be alot more interest in these wheels. The Thirdgen community has been asking for these for Years now! Unless there is another thread about them?

I understand you think it should sit lower but holy hell is that a mean looking GTA. One of the best I've ever seen
