IT REALLY IS JUST ABOUT AS SIMPLE AS CLICKING ON THE CAR YOU LIKE BEST, AND MOST OF LIST OF RULES BELOW PERTAIN PRIMARILY TO THE NOMINEES, BUT PLEASE HELP PROTECT THE INTEGRITY OF THE Thirdgen.org CAR OF THE MONTH PROGRAM BY READING AND UNDERSTANDING THE COTM VOTING RULES BEFORE PROCEEDING.
This thread is a Car of the Month **Voting Thread**. To participate in the voting, simply click on your choice in the attached poll. Please observe the following list of rules if you are going to participate. Remember, we must protect the integrity of the contest so that the most deserving Members win.
If you are nominated, you CAN vote for your own car.
If you are nominated, do not ask people to register as TGO Members for the sole purpose of voting for your car.
Do not use multiple member accounts to vote for any car (including your own) more than once or to vote for more than one car.
Do not use photo -edited images to represent your car.
If you are a nominee, please DO post abundant photos (exterior, interior, engine) and technical & historical data. When threads are started on other websites advising members there to come to TGO to vote for a mutual member of both sites, it is usually NOT good for the integrity of the TGO COTM program.
Open Season this month. Six very nice Third Gens. Excellent, excellent variety this month - only one Firebird, but still overall each car is a different type of build or theme than the next, which is something i really enjoy seeing. i am looking forward to this months voting.
My 1991 Camaro R7U Canadian Players Challenge 1LE is 1 of 97 produced as a 1991 model year camaro. It was an early production 1991 so it was raced in 1990, 1991 and 1992.
I originally became fascinated with the r7u cars when I was 14 years old and had a paper route. A 1991 #13 Andy Mahood Kokanee Beer car was 4 doors away from my parents house. I begged my dad to buy it for me. It was in race form, cage, fire supressions, right off the track. But being a responsible dad he sad no. Probably a good thing but about 8 years later I found this beauty for sale in Edmonton Alberta and worked a deal on it! I Drove out with a friend of mine and a trailer and brought it back!
Usually a middle of the pack car it was raced by a guy named Cameron Hope who was a lawyer in Stoney Plains Alberta. He now works for the New York Rangers of the NHL.
The Players Challenge series was hosted by GM, Players Cigarettes (Canadian Company) and several other sponsors. All the Camaro/firebirds in the series were "bone stock" 1LE fully optioned cars. The engines were sealed on specific bolts to ensure the engines were not modified, which would showcase a "best driver wins" type of series.
I've had this car for 10 years now. It has about 39000 miles on it. Has the original roll cage. And race seat still in the car.
I also have a 1992 R7U, it is the #1 car which was raced by Rob Fellows and has just over 6000miles on it.
I've had my 86 IROC for 20 years this month, It had 90k miles and was a bone stock 305 TPI auto. Now the car has 280k and still drives great, even in NYC. Over the years I've installed Kenny Brown subframe connectors, boxed the lower control arms, 1LE brakes, a forged, roller 355 with Edelbrock heads, a built 700R4 with billet FTI 3000 converter, a Lee steering box with an Astro van shaft, progressive rate springs with Koni dampers, and countless small things.
I've done several auto X events with it, and the last time at Englishtown it ran a 13.1 @ 106. The stock TPI makes boatloads of torque, but I'd like to get in the 12's.
I kept the interior stock looking, with new carpet and door panels. I added a pioneer head unit, JL speakers in stock location, and a Grant steering wheel.
Thanks for the nomination, To be against all these nice 3rd gens is an honor
So My 85 iroc my mom bought new, With 20k miles in the late 90's my brother took ownership. He kept it nice until drugs took over his life and then the car went down hill fast. He was murdered close to 3 years ago. I got the car back and did a complete restoration on it. Interior, gauges, paint, engine, trans to suspension. I have had just about every bolt out of this car.
Recently got it close to finished and was able to put some miles on it. I love driving this car and makes me feel like I have part of my brother back. The way he wanted it, built motor, 6 speed, teal, 92 aero flares...
I ended up buying a 92 parts car to swap onto my 85. I built a 355 with some good parts, just swapped in a t56, custom exhaust, Dana 44 rear.
The Idea with this car is to do mods that are 100% reversible and nothing to take away from it being factory looking. I have saved all factory parts that have been swapped. I am also trying to find factory odds and ends like the proper white steering wheel and shifter, other then that everything else for the most part is from 1984 including all paint and decals. I will get some interior shots in a day or so. THIS CAR IS DRIVEN! I put over 1000k on this weekend alone.
Only mods are:
2" drop
Redraif flushmount headlight swap
Magnaflow Catback
White Face gauges + speedo swap
Wonderbar add on
Front and rear clear markers
Tubular LCA/Panhard bar
Thank you for the nomination. My '89 IROC is a factory fresh, all original, non-modified survivor with only 13,600 miles on the clock. It is a three owner car that has been meticulously maintained over the past 26 years. This car is original from the radiator hoses down to the factory Gatorback ZR50's which were replaced but not discarded only weeks ago. The car rides and handles like the day it left the dealer showroom and the L98 TPI power plant delivers reliable power to the new BFG 245/50ZR/16 Pro Comp II tires. The car also carries its original factory fresh Bright Blue metallic paint finish which has no visible imperfections inspite of the fact that it is over a quarter of a century old. The interior is in incredible condition with no stains or tears and is still protected by its original carpeted floor mats. The Bose Delco sound system was recently refurbished and operates flawlessly. The car came with its original owners manual, brochures, service records, as well as a diary of usage which was maintained by the two previous owners. This diary contains a detailed account of each time the car was used including beginning and ending mileage, reason for trip and destination. I'm very happy to have found this car after 25 years of selling my first third gen. Here are a few photos of my IROC.

She started life as a 1986 Camaro Sport Coupe. 305 carb, t5, 3.23 posi, A/C
i tried to keep it looking as stock as possible, i've always liked the look of the z28 appearance package, so i added all the ground effects and 91-92 blisters. she wasn't in good shape when i bought her, Lots of late nights in the garage.
A tuff month to pic! All are really nice. I just spent 30 minutes debating before casting my vote. Some of these cars should be nominated again if they do not win.
