How hard to remove window tint?

I was quoted $120 to get my windows re-tinted IF I go ahead and take off all the old tint myself. I figured why not save a few bucks. So is it hard to do or should I just get them to do it?

also, when taking the tint off the rear hatch many times you lose the rear defroster.

Windex and a green scrub pad works pretty good for getting off the left over glue. I did my hatch in about 15 minutes.

TAKING MY TINT OFF WAS SOO DAMN EASY

first spray some windex all over... wipe it over the window... let it sit... then get a sharp rasor blade and in the corner try to make the blade go under the tint alitle without actualy riping the tint...

try and get a little edge from the corner big enough so u can dry it and grab it with your fingers

slowly pull at the tint and do your BEST NOT to tear it... slowly peel off the bigest single pieces before the tint rips and you have to start over again...

for the driver and passenger side doors i slowls peeled the tint off using my 4th grade sticker peeling skills...
i was able to get the entire window with 1 slow pull...

i had to remove my tinting to pass inspection...
the WORST part of removing the tinting is getting the sticky stuff left from the tint... it comes off with nail pollish remover + over 50 cotton *****... (used 1.5 bottles) the glue stuff needed to be rubed like hell b4 the glue beaded up into little tan brown glue *****...

The glue comes off easy with a rag and gas. Th smell is strong, but it cuts the glue easy.

Cake ...

I had to take the tint off the side windows of my car this summer to pass inspection. The tint looked great, but must have been sh1tty cause both windows came off in about 5 minutes. It came off in solid sheets, and all I had to do was wash some of the leftover glue off. Piece of Cake. My hatch tint passed so I didnt have to take that off.

BOY I MISS MY TINT.

I would think that methyl ethyl ketone or toluene would be good for removing the glue. In any case when you are using solvents you should wear gloves and a face mask. Those solvents aren't exactly good for you. Gloves and masks sould be available through an auto body supply shop, those guys work with this stuff all the time.

OK guys, this stuff is not that hard to get off. MEK is WAY over kill and you'll end up getting it on somethng that you don't want it on. We use it on the aircraft to get off the toughest paints and other coatings. I've had great luck with simply using windex. Soak it down and let it sit for a minute or two. It then comes right off like a gel. I use a razor scraper just 'cus it's really quick. Use a green scrub pad (lightly) for any places you can't get to with the scraper. You don't need to scrub hard.

State chemicale makes a heavy duty remover called PGR. Keep it away from the paint but I removed all the tint in an afternoon. I did remove the hatch and lay it upside down. a flat razor and a green scrubby pad for the detail work. lol

Dude, you lucked out. With no rear defrost, taking off the tint is fairly simple. Just take some windex, spray it over the back window, let it sit in the sun, then scrape away with some razor blades.

taking the tint off the rear hatch is so damn easy. i was told buy a professional that it would cost $200 just to take the old tint off. naturaly i told the guy to blow it out his @ss. use a razor blade to get it started then just slowly pull it off (but be careful not rip the rear defroster). good luck.

Do exactly what c-5invalid described and instead use some ammonia in a spray bottle. This will enable you to take the entire hatch tint off in one single piece. I recommend taking some black trash bag, cutting it so that it is one large piece, and taping it to the hatch inside. Then spray the ammonia very generously over the tint. take the trash bag that's taped on the inside of the hatch and press it to the ammonia so that the two stick together. park the car in some sun. after about 30 minutes of soak, the tint comes right off.

When I bought my car, it had illegle tint on the windows. I mean you had to put your eye up to the window and your could just see into the car. That and the stickers came off it of and the bar. I didn't want any cops watching me knowing it a kid driving the car plus I want a hot rod not a *****. But when I took the window tint off I used a razor blade to start a corner and the tint came off in big sheets. Then I used some kind off alchole forgot what kind, my father told me to use it to take the glue off. To loosen the glue up I used a hair dyer too. Took me about 2 hours to take all the stickers off and window tint. But the car looks much better now I think as you can see in my sig. =)
