How to make large images in threads!
This should be a sticky.. just sayin...
How to post any web image (or from your uploaded photos)
1. go to your album (or any web album like photo bucket etc) and find the picture you want to see.. make sure you see it the largest size.... if you use a place like photo bucket ensure that you are sharing the photo with "public"
2. right click on the image and select "copy image URL". it may be different like copy image location or something like that. I use chrome so...
3. now go to the forum page where you want to put your image. In the text type "" without the quotes. post it.. enjoy it.
I work in IT and to me this stuff is simple but I know I may be biased...
I hope this helps you all!

What if you don't use web to store pics ? and pull from files on computer.
I belong to a Boat forum also, and they have a 'full size' choice if you don't want just thumbnail size. Perhaps the webmaster can get software guy to turn that feature on.

I use "Image Shack" and it is a great photo hosting site but cost at least $20.00 or more a year to use.
You can select several different sizes to chose from when posting.

Re: How to make large images in threads!
(FYI: SbFormula's image is 2000 pixels wide. My browser is auto-resizing it in when viewing. But, while posting this reply, in Advanced Mode/Preview Post, the page is extra wide, and I have to scroll left and right to see everything.)
Or, you don't have to host your images anywhere. Just attach them from your computer. The advantage of this is the pictures will be "hosted" on TGO, and not end up as a broken link in a day/week/year when the original files are removed from its web location.
1) When posting your message, click the yellow image icon.
2) At the resulting dialog:
a) type/paste in the web URL (address) of the image
b) drag and drop from your computer
c) browse your computer and select the file.
There is a size limit... something like 1 MB each. Besides, you don't want to make the threads so picture heavy they take forever to load.
When re-sizing:
- 900 to 1200 pixels on the long size is usually good enough maximum.
- 100kb in size is a good minimum.
- 500kb is size is a good maximum.
- Those are for "large" car pictures, or a "what is this?" picture. Simple/small images can be smaller still, like 15kb, and still look good.
In Windows, open the image in MSPaint, CTRL-E to open the resizer window. File->Save As, make sure it is JPG (or PNG), and select the quality such that the image is a reasonable size.
On a Mac, open the image (in Preview), select Tools -> Adjust Size, then File->Save As.

Huge pics in a thread? thats a forum setting...
Go to to your USER CP
click "Edit Options" on the left side
Look on the page (middle to bottom) where it says "The Image Resizer"
Select Use Lytebox (v4.0)
Click Save at the bottom of the page
Your images (and those posted by others) now will now NOT be huge

Re: How to make large images in threads!
Thanks for the tip. My setting is blank, which uses the forum default to resize over 1024 wide and 1400 tall.
I have no problem with viewing the threads, as the images are resized. And while a minor issue to deal with, the Advanced Editor/preview did NOT resize the image.
Just picking nits: The images will be as big as they ever were... as far as storage space goes. The images are only changed for the user viewing them. I am not sure if page loading speed is affected positively (downloading a smaller image) or neutral/negatively (resizing after downloading full size).
For a user with resizing deactivated, or when clicking on the images, we will still be able to see them full size.

Re: How to make large images in threads!
There already is, and has been, in the Help section:
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/prob...mages-tgo.html
If you use the instructions in the link I provided above, you don't have to use the 3rd party services (Photobucket, etc.) and mess with copy/pasting URLs.
The instructions outlined in the link I provided above doesn't use vBulletin's legacy attachment system with thumbnails, which you can still use through the Manage Attachments button, but instead uses a custom written plugin that allows drag-and-drop uploading, ability to add comments per picture, and is also not confined to the same limitations as the legacy vBulletin attachment system.

Also, just so everyone knows , you must stack your photos when posting more than one in a reply.
If you place them side by side it will stretch the page sideways.
