new paint job, cat walks on it the next day......
ok i just got my car back from the paint shop today and its bad enough that its raining. when i park it in the driveway the cat proceeds to walk all over my hood while i was in the house. i get out and see that there are paw prints all over the hood, and remember they said not to wash the car for two weeks. so i get a soft cloth and gently wipe the prints away, and now i have these stupid surface scratches in spots. i know it was dumb to have done that, but i thought the paw prints, left on there for at least two weeks, would cause more damage. i bought a car cover but didnt wanna put it on a soaking wet car, but would that be all right to do for future reference? also, those light surface scratches can be buffed out right? i hate my stupid cats sometimes....

i got a single stage (enamel?) paint job, it looks really good and has a great shine to it, but these few spots on the hood are gonna bother me im sure once i can finally wash my car and notice them a little better.

On washing the car, I doubt it. I'd put money on it they washed the car before you got there, I know they did with mine. I've heard of not waxing for awhile, but washing is weird. I know if you do wash it, be very gentle on it.
As for the cat, I have the same problem. I keep scaring it off, but if you have to, just do it a friendly favor and take it to another neighbor hood, someone is bound to be nice enough to feed it.

Man,the maturity of some people.Yeah, kill the cat that's the solution to everything
.
Knowing that your cat(or whoever's cat) is there walking around and it stays there?Well ,it was bound to happen. It was probably trying to keep warm off of the cold ground. You should have not wiped the prints off. The towel probably had some foreign materials in it that caused the scratches.I've had a neighborhood cat climb and sleep on my a few times and never gotten any scratches, and yes it had its claws still.

Find a garage and lock the car up tight! I also hate cats. I got a new paintjob on my old firebird and parked it in the garage, but left the door open to the garage. I came out the next day and the cat had taken a dump all over the top of my car (I had just gotten the t-tops painted gloss black) and scratched the t-bar.
Dogs keep cats away. You might try that. But as far as washing the car, it can't be any worse than the rain. Find a nice carwash that's safe on ALL finishes and go light but wash it. DO NOT get a washing liquid that resembles dish soap or claims to wash and wax at the same time. You'll end up stripping paint.

As mentioned above it is not a big deal. Let the paint dry good before getting concerned.
Get a good glazing compound and follow up with a good coat of polish. Make sure the paint has had time to cure. If the glazing compound does not take care of it you may need to use some polishing compound followed by a couple good coats of polish.
Never use a paper towel on paint and never rub anything over your car when it is dry. I only use 100% cotton towels on my paint.

Like they said, the scratchs should buff out. Cats can be trained to stay off of cars but I do not have the paitents for that any more. I don't care how wrong it seems but if someones cat gets on my property and damages it then one of two things are gonna happen. One the owner will pay for it or the car gets blasted. I can't stand people that can't keep thier animals on thier own property. If you can't control them don't have them.

I could be wrong here, but if I remember correctly a guy on ls1.com has this problem. Except it was mulitple cats. He called the... well not sure what they are called. Always called them the dog catcher. He came out and got all of them, and the neighbor who owned the cats had to pay to get them out, he did it mulitple times. She eventually started watching them.

I have a cat and my neighbor has a dog, and it was tied up to a tree next door so it can only run as far as the chaing, well the dogs chain was long enough for it to reach my car and when the neighborhood kids would ride by on there bikes the dog would bark and try to chase them and put his claws on my car to stand up and scratches up the door, and my hill billy nieghbors refused to pay for it, but did I go out and go shoot a dog noooooooo, im actually human and understand that its not the animals fault, although I cant lie and say if I had a chance id kick the dog hard in its ***!

no need to kill the dam cat it's not the cat's fault...Just wait a little while and buff it out. My neighbors cat sleeps on my car almost every night and has never put a scratch on the car.

believe me im definitely an animal lover, always have been always will be, but these cats can be a pain sometimes. well, since this all began with the cats, i bought a car cover, and lets just say the car cover possibly did more damage being taken on and off then the cats would have so im taking the cover back and letting the cats walk on my hood. its such a lovely hood i just hope they dont trash it, but thats my only option aside from nuking the poor animals.

I am not totally sure of this but I think that putting a cover on a car that was just painted could be bad.Since that the paint hasn't really hardened having a cover sit on it may leave an impression in the paint, especially in the sun. Some covers have metal/plastic rings that you use to tie the cover down.Well when you pull the cover off the rings may scratch the paint.Another possibilty is that if the cover was stored out in the open air, dirt and other foreign materials get caught in the fabric and could scratch the paint.

Is this Animal Planet or a car website?
Anyway, you can wash the car. They tell you to wait 2 weeks because the first time you wash it, you're going to find some imperfections in the paint. If people find those things 2 days after paying big bucks for their paint job, they get bent and bitch to the body shop. After 2 weeks, they're substantially more forgiving when it comes to little inconsistancies.
Just make sure that you keep at least a couple coats of wax on the car, because single-stage paint, especially enamel, doesn't stay shiny for long when you neglect it.
