Firebird Formula hood scoop

I have an 89 Formula 350. Its black, but i noticed the inner part of the hood scoop (the part you can see from inside) isn't black, its a silver color or tin color. I know the owner before didn't do anything with it, so I was wondering if your firebird formula hood scoops inner part matched the body color of your car. I know this sounds a little confusing, but I hope you can help. Not a big deal, but I was just curious. Mine doesn't really look bad the way it is, but i just wanted to know. Thanks a lot!

Well this is what sound like happened. The plate is painted or powercoated aluminum. Over time, and many waxings, it wares off, showing the aluminum. You could aways get a new one or do what I did. Since our hood are the same that came on tha '84 T/A, which was functional, just order this plate, which has holes in it, from GM. I made a box underneith it for my air induction. Or you could just leave it open and let out the hot air out from under the hood. But the grilled plate looks good. Just a thought.

The 82-84 T/A hood bulge screen has been discontinued for at least the last three years. Check a junkyard for them. If it bothers you just pull it out and rattle can it semi-gloss black.

The aluminum hoods were SCCA, Firehawks, and some people with very good connections got them... I'd imagine there aren't many still out there.

Formula Hoods.

All of the Formulas w/ the Bulge hood that I have encountered (seen in person) Had a silver colored plate inside the bulge, not body color. It may have been the natural finish or painted, I do not know. As far as I know, the "silver" plate is OEM.

My 84 T/A and 83 T/A(had, before the cowl hood) the functional powerbulge hood's. There is a grill located where the silver plate is on the Formy and a functional cowl unit that matches up to the aircleaner mounted under the hood.

Actually they don't, they sell the blockoff plate. The grill is a honeycomb screen that was stock on 82-84 Trans Am's and has been discontinued for quite a while.
