It is a 1988 firebird

ford 9' with 3.50 gears
owned since 1997.
been low 10's in the 1/4 mile. I will be racing this weekend and will let everyone know how it is doing.
Wow. Thanks so much for being nominated with such a super group of cars! My car is an 89, L03, auto. I bought it because it reminded me of my red Firebird in high school I guess. Started out a Formula but the PO had added ground effects for the Trans Am look so I stayed with that theme and added black crosslace wheels of course. Very mechanically sound when I bought it except for some shoddy bodywork and worn out paint. I upgraded a few things such as posi w/ 3.73s, mild torque converter, shift kit, 3in Flowmaster exhaust, custom chip, and went through every bit of the worn suspension. Never really got into the engine because of plans for a 350 to go in the near future. Two years ago my Dad and my two oldest sons helped me do some bodywork and did our best to put a good paint job on her. Car has been lots of fun driving to shows, evening drives in the country, and usually once a week to Church. Again thanks so much for the nomination.
Both are great looking cars!!!
Firebrdo88, love the style and work done that translates great to the track!
dmc, car is stunning and awesome to have family apart of your work! I hope one day to do the same with my kids. This hobby has a lot of value and great to see it passed on!

Meant a lot to me having my Dad, my boys, and even a few of my friends come hang out and help me. I remember helping my Dad on probably a dozen builds over the years whether they were his or other folks cars it was fun. Most of the time I was probably in the way more than it was worth but he let me hang around. These kids they soak up every thing you teach them, good or bad. Id rather keep my boys busy learning to work rather than learning bad habits that's for sure.
this is one of my best friends cars! It’s by far the baddest 3rd gen I’ve ever seen! If it don’t win, u guys b twisted!
He is losing all on his own. I would have voted for him had I been able to see the interior isn't stripped, ripped, or otherwise ruined. dmccain earned his lead position twice over by beating a badass car like that.
Sorry guys I did not put more info. I was gone Friday-Monday at the track and have been slammed at work. No reason to be angry. This forums should be fun for all. Honestly I do not even know who nominated me and feel lucky to be nominated. I have owned this car since 1997 and it was painted by my dad and me in 97. He passed this last year. So if I am quiet about my car there is good reasons. Everyones car is nice in different ways. I drive and race mine and have fun. That is the great thing about cars we can all be different and have fun in different ways. Sorry if that light is not good in these pics the car is dirty and in the garage from the weekend.
Hmm.. Bet there was a ton of new accounts at thirgen.org yesterday since around 7:30 pm and I think I know why. Bout the same time I got a weird PM also.

There really should be a rule where you're only eligible to vote after 1 year of membership or after x amount of posts...
Voting has never been totally objective any month, not even the time I won. Hey, at least it's a cool car.
It's fun to win like it's fun to win anything. But I don't remember who won any month. All I remember are the cars I like. dmccain is a car I remember.
Hey Guys, Sorry if you feel I have done something wrong for not posting pics of my interior and now because the votes are changing to my favor. I urge you all to ask for the votes that were placed and the account join dates. I have not done anything petty to try to win car of the month. Honestly I do not even come on this site much anymore. Dmccain, Sorry if a PM stating your car was nice and I hope you win was taken in way that wasn't anything but sportman like. As my post above stated this should be fun for all........ Hopefully a moderator can help settle this.
This really shouldn’t be about winning anyways.. It’s just a showcase of nice cars and stories. Some people win because they’ve been around a while and have a lot of friends on here that vote. Some people have an incredible story. Some people take better pictures. Some people put years of blood and sweat into a build (no tears though because there’s no crying in Thirdgens). Some people like Firebirds better than Camaros. Some people went out and found a mint low mile car and are preserving it (and maybe had to do years of soul sucking work, planning, scouring the earth and haggling to get it)
We’re all here with the best thirdgens in the world. The ones that are driven, raced and shown with pride.
Its sort of cool that an underdog can win COTM because out at the shows and trophy nights it’s a different thing.
I voted for dmccain not only because he’s a great member with a great car that shows well, but man, painting a car is not easy. There’s as much nuance to body, paint and how well “turned out” your car is as built motors and time slips. A few people have all of those things around here.
The cars may be different, but they all have a story, time, work and money behind them..
Coming from horse showing too, it’s just that judge on that day. Sometimes you deserve to win and you don’t.. You show your horse and someone wins. Sometimes it’s you, sometimes it’s the wealthy people that sponsored the horse show, sometimes it’s someone who knows the judge and sometimes your horse is undeniably the best. They always say.. the crowd knows who really won. Sometimes second place gets a much larger applause than the “Champion”.
..and that’s my take on why winning doesn’t matter with things like this. At least we get to show our cars!

Very well said!
I lost a trophy last weekend to a plain 84 Camaro sport coupe with 74,000 miles (probably 174k), it had been painted, racing buckets, all of the lettering rubbed off of the shifter stuff on the interior, gaudy wheel well trim, $40 aftermarket steering wheel, the entire engine bay was undecorated, aftermarket t-tops, Cragar chrome wheels with big fat tires out back, and some chrome on the engine. I had the better car BY A LANDSLIDE. I mean, our cars were not even on the same planet.....but he was a local guy, and I wasn't. Makes all the difference in the world lol. Sucks, but that's the way the ball rolls sometimes. But I still had a great time there and will go back next year

I’m sure the Z got a lot of love and I’s sure there were people who knew what went down.. It ain’t about the winning..
The crowd knows who won.. Its about showing your car

Oh yeah, definately. I still had tons of fun and didn't have to worry about scratching my interior panels with a trophy on the way home hehe. People love the car and I enjoy talking cars with people and looking at all the cool stuff....that's the only reason why I go.
First of all, lets get this out of the way - There is a specific amount of time that an account must be active before they can vote in ANY pole. So fore those of you who have the notion that firebrdo88 had a bunch of flunkies sign up and vote yesterday, I can assure you that is not the case.
Next, I don't know what "88fox" is all about, why he posted here, or if we'll ever hear from him again, but for his part, firebrdo88 hasn't struck me as reeeeeaaaally caring one way or the other to the extent that he'd engage in "behind the scenes maneuvering" in order to secure the win here. What other people might do on his behalf is out of his control. That there was a behind the scenes campaign to swing the voting here, is not for certain.
There was only like 69 votes guys. There's always only like 69 votes.
It's not unheard of (though it's extremely rare) for there to be some sort of campaign behind the scenes on other forums to drum up support for one of their regulars (like in the more performance-oriented forums). I don't condone it, and, again, its extremely rare. The bone-stock guys sometimes have the advantage of [being the regulars] on the forum where COTM is held. Sometimes its a popularity contest. I don't condone that either. All in all though, it seems like its a perfect mix of cars - stock, modified, Camaro, Firebird, (it'd be nice to see a Formy win - I mean, what's wrong with you people???)
Back to the point though, lets pump the brakes on any accusations of fraud, especially directed at the winner. Yes, the late swing in the voting is unusual, and therefore interesting, but it's definitely not what some of you are thinking.
I'll try to get the **Winner Thread** up and running today, however, I'm supposed to be fixing (replacing) a leaking faucet right now, which means I have to replace two, because its his & her sinks, and its not like any store is gonna stock the same faucet for more than six months...
I apologize if I created controversy, Shawn is one of my best friends .... however that’s not why I joined and I wasn’t even able to vote... although im a foxbody owner , im a fan of the 80’s muscle cars in general and I love his car like it’s mine...
No problem.
I sold my '89 LX about a year ago to further finance my LS swap. I was impressed with how solid the car was and its ease of modification and maintenance. Fortunately for me though it was a car that had been somewhat neglected maybe, but never abused.
If you stick around, you may find that us Third Gen F-Body guys are a bit more cultish about our cars, but most respect the Fox Bodies as fellow '80s muscle cars - that rivalry **** died in the '90s I think.
Hmm.. Bet there was a ton of new accounts at thirgen.org yesterday since around 7:30 pm and I think I know why. Bout the same time I got a weird PM also.
If you mean the 30th, based on your post date and wording, you lost the bet. The 30th shown negligible new registrations. In fact the whole month of August isn't any record nor highest of last 3 months. Even detailing by date, there was no significant change in registrations over the days-weeks leading up toward end of month.
Additionally, new accounts cannot vote. It's also not a minor hour or few day delay before being unlocked to vote. Since you mentioned 85Fox specifically, that account couldn't vote and there is no record of any vote from that account.
If you got a weird PM, specifically one that violates our Rules and Guidelines, there's a Report PM feature.
The COTM is not about winning. Its about showcasing the best ThirdGens that might not get the exposure they would without the COTM.
Your car got nominated and many liked it. Don't walk away upset!
