Thank You for the nomination, I really appreciate it.
Here is the story of this car.
I'm the 2nd owner, I purchased this car way back in 92.
It started out life as a 84SC V6 model, with pretty much no options at all but it was my first car and I enjoyed driving it every day.
Fast forward to about 10 years ago, the V6 was done and the overall car was getting in rough shape. It sat outside, and wasn't a daily driver anymore. So I had to make a decision do I take the time and resources to restore it, or scrap it. Happy to say I decided to restore it, and make it better than it was when it was new.
I always liked the look of the 92 model year, so I purchased a donor Z28 and started swapping everything over (Interior, GFX, bumpers, the 5.7).
Got everything test fitted, and then started sanding the body down and luckily the car was solid inside and out.
It took about 3-4 years to get everything swapped, repainted and back to being able to drive.
She is now my fun project car, that will never be done. I'm always having a project of some type going on with her.
Now for the pics:
Here is how she looked back before any restoration was done.
As I was test fitting all the GFX and sanding had begun. RIP Black Cat
And now the good stuff, how she looks today
My favorite hobby - Car Audio
This is my Double Din conversion I did, and you can also see the kickpods I built too.
Other Mods I've done.
The rear tails lights have been completely converted to LEDs (Turn/Brake/Tail/Reverse). Over 1000 LEDs have been soldered into the housings A short video of them in action:
A few more photos that wouldn't ft on the first post.
My current project:
Removed the double din, and swapping in a 7 inch touchscreen, connected to a Raspberry PI that will be running the OpenAuto Pro software.
Still have a lot of work todo still on this one.
Thank you for the nomination! I always love voting for the COTM every month and I'm super happy to be included for this month!
My car is a 43k mile, 1990 IROC-Z. It is one of only 295 G92, 5 speed cars built for 1990. It was built in December of 1989. It is also a DX3 stripe delete car. I am the second owner, having bought it from it's 80 year old original owners! The car is EXTREMELY clean! The bottom side of the car is about as clean as the top side.
Here's a list of the goodie options....
230HP 305 TPI
G92
5 speed
N10 dual cat exhaust
3.42 gears
4 wheel disc brakes
DX3 stripe delete
Gray leather interior
Sitting on 4 new General G-max 245/50/16 tires
It is an unmolested, survivor. The car is all original other than tires and battery (of course), and it has had a set of bigger injectors installed along with an Accel distributor. It is all original paint other than the hood. (It was repainted due to a front bra yellowing the paint on the front) It has never been damaged in any way. It runs and drives absolutely awesome. So it is 1 of only 295 G92 5 speeds built for 1990, but I dont know if the numbers can be broke down any farther being a stripe delete car, etc. The car was purchased new in Houston, TX where it spent its life until the previous owners moved to South Dakota in 2013. I actually found the car for sale right here on thirdgen.org in the "5 Speed third gens for sale" thread in the History/Originality section. Thanks to ray jr for posting the link to this car!
Again, I am super happy and honored to be in the COTM voting this month! Heres some pics of the car....and a quick vid..

Car sounds awesome and love the burnout. About the only thing Iowa back roads are good for!!
Thanks! Yeah growing up on a farm on one of those Iowa back roads came in handy for marking out the 1/8th and 1/4 mile on the blacktop for doing some drag racing lol
So...I really didn't want to have to cast the deciding vote here. These are both great Third Gens with a lot going for them.
On the one hand, dagwood's car is, to my thinking, at least in stock form, the ultimate 3rd Gen Camaro: The very slick, very cool G92 Package in the form of an IROC-Z, which I prefer over the '91-'92 Z28 styling. While the Firebirds have a couple of supreme models like the ultra-rare Carroll Formulas, the Formula Firehawks, and the GTA SE, more commonly known as TTA, as far as I know, the G92 Camaro is as good as it gets as far as a special performance trim. As we all know, I have a strong tendency and bias towards 3rd Gens that are at least somewhat extensively modified for speed and performance. However, in this case there is a strong argument to be made in favor of keeping this car as stock as possible that even I would probably have to adhere to. This is a one-year only package [for an IROC] (I think) that is the best performance package available in any 3rd Gen Camaro (I think), so to modify this very rare car would render it just another modified IROC. If I were going to do something like that, I would just get an IROC (probably an '89) and extensively modify it in a manner inspired by the G92 IROC.
cdoyle. What a frickin' car! Not only is this a beautiful Third Gen Camaro that looks bad-*** from every angle, it's a Thirdgen that cdoyle saved from the abyss. I mean, this poor thing was sitting on what appear to be 3-spoke Primes when he bought it. It's actually hard for me to imagine paying any amount of cash for that car. It's a true story of rags to riches / tears to glory. It is impossible not to factor in the amount of work and passion that went into cdoyle's car. This modified car was tastefully done, with some very cool features, particularly in the interior. Thank you, cdoyle, for representing us, the Third Gen Community with another bad-*** Third Gen on the road.
So...the only way that I can do this is to remain consistent in my philosophy on COTM voting, which is to vote for the car that I would most want in my garage between my blue, 550 horsepower Formula and my TTA...
