I have a set of the GMPP chrome valve covers (Chrome with Red Chevy Symbol) Never been used if ya want em. I think they would look sweet on that engine. They are centerbolt if you were wondering.

Nice. I suggest black for the oil pan. Maybe even with crinkle paint.

I'd paint it orange like the rest of the engine, to give it a nice smooth look, or silver.

Why everyone paint the engine orange, always orange! Paint it yellow or blue or something else. Orange has been done way to much.

Or they can paint it any color they want cause its their engine, not yours. A yellow engine? Hmmm.... I thought yellow might be considered a ***** color, and we all know how much you hate rice.

Personally I'd go with black. But any light color is good as well. Helps you find problems easier. Orange is common, looks fine to me.

orange is common engine paint because its CHEVY ENGINE ORANGE. it was (is?) a factory engine color. some people like the heritage and paint it orange.

I like the orange a lot but you have to admit that it has been done to death. Nothing wrong with it, I like it but it doesn't set it apart from the rest and that doesn't do much for me.
I'd like to see more solid black engines with brushed metal and no chrome. The only yellow small block I ever liked was my friends fathers 283 punched out 6 over and it's yellow with the old vette fin valve covers. They look really nice and simple. Almost makes the small block look 'small' in size.
Definatly use the chrome valve covers with that pretty orange engine. Orange and chrome is really nice (don't do white PLEASE) white and orange makes me wonder what that person was thinking!
I've seen a few purple engines that were painted with a metalic flake and it looked really good.
When I get the chance (pull engine for rebuild) I'll be doing a dark red block/heads and black valve covers with black intake. Give it that rustic old look and NOWHERE will I have those stainless racing hoses . That's my opinion and if you don't like it, tuff, get your own.

ITS RED , NOT ORANGE

i guess you cant tell from the photo, but i painted the engine bright red, the crappy flourescent lights in my garage make it look orange in the pics. as for the oilpan i decided to paint it black, also the reason i went with red is because my car is maroon and i thought black was too plain and i was having a helluva time finding heat paint that matched my car, besides that when i redid the rear end i painted it all black with red diff cover , drums, and sway bars, etc. well thanks for the commments feel free to post if you have any other thoughts or ideas

I think its GM Corparate blue?? So there, orange/red or whatever isn't the only stock color. As I recall most of our motors are black!

A chrome oil pan would look pretty sweet. Looks great.

Hey guys, the crinkle idea is cool, but one thing, when will someone see it, lol. Unless you have it jacked up at shows with mirror's underneath, no one will ever see the oilpan. I do like the crinkle paint though, this guy did it to his mirrors at a car show (thought it looked pretty gay on his mirrors, lol, and he only had one done) But it would be cool.

If I had coated headers and a cleaner engine bay, I'm guessing it would look nice in the car. So far I'm not terribly impressed with how my engine bay looks, but when I paint my new cast CHEVROLET valve covers & plenum grooves, I think it'll liven things up a bit.

i agree with the black and brushed. I wanted to do that... but my car is red with camel/tan int. I'm not really a big fan of the color... but the car was cheap($800!). I was thinking painting the engine black and the plenum black. the grooves in the plenum and the runners red. Give under the hood a bit of character when i show people what a TPI looks like. i gotta remove the gold on the IROC-Z rims too. Gold doesn't look right, i wanna brush and polish them.

In my experience, it seems that the crinkle paint is tougher to chip than regular paint, but I don't know if that would be true underneath where there are a lot more rocks flying. Just a thought.

still think a nice set of chrome valve covers would look good on there hehe. My fav colors for engine are black and chrome (or aluminum), orange, red, and has anyone thought of ceramic coating??? That would look bad ***.

I went for the black block and brushed aluminum. The valve covers (not shown), Weiand SC, and the water pump are brushed aluminum. The pulleys are polished aluminum from March. I had to have the Weiand crank pulley machined down to fit inside the smaller than stock March pulley. I'm waiting on a new SC neck from Holley since the one I have is too short. You can't tell in the second photo but the SC belt will not clear the 3rd v-belt on the water pump. I need that for my A.I.R. pump. Gotta pass emissions ;-)

When will someone see it no matter *what* color you paint it? You gotta paint it something, right? I've done a motor with black crinkle oilpan, and it looked so good, that's what I'm doing to mine when I drop in a new motor. I wouldn't paint it RED or the same color as the motor, just because if everything is the same color, it looks too much like a plastic toy.. like this one guy: I rebuilt the 350 in his pickup, and he wanted EVERYTHING Chevrolet blue, even the boltheads. You know Chevrolet blue is a light baby blue color, and it looked goofy when I was finished. Especially sitting in a brown pickup, but that's another story. I like some contrast which is why I suggested the black on that red motor. I would also have painted the timing chain cover a different color (maybe), and possibly the heads.

I think it would look cool on that red motor, I'm not saying it wouldn't. But with any color it really doesn't matter because you can't see it. That comment wasn't directed at you it was in general. I wasn't saying you wouldn't see it because it was black, I was trying to say all colors. (unless bright neon pink on a black motor, you'd notice that, lol) But yes, I know you need to paint it something, I'm saying don't worry to much about what would look **Best**. The timing chain cover would look good black also. People will see that.
