I washed my car with Meguiars soap, then waxed it with Meguiars gold class. It looks great. So the next weekend its dirty right? So I wash it again with the soap and dry it off with a cotton towel. Now I see what appears to be light scratches in the wax or paint, mainly on the back bumper. What's the deal. I know that some people only dry with a chamois but I didnt think a cotton bath towel would do that. Am I washing it too much by washing every weekend (I just got the car, that will probably stop soon)? How long do you guys go between waxing? Should I use that Meguairs swirl remover stuff? The plastic bumbers should take the wax all right, right?

 

Very few cotton towels are actually 100% cotton, and this is probably where your problem lies. I don't have my Zaino info in front of me, so I can't remember the brand for sure, but Sal recommends a particular white (Royal Cannon, I believe) towel for this. You might check out the site even if you aren't interested in the Zaino product. As for waxing, in my experience it is impossible to over wax your car, especially if it contains cleaners which remove the old wax. Swirl remover might be necessary, followed by a glaze, then wax. You can also glaze over the wax, though it'll wash right off the next time your car gets wet.

 

Well first off, Gold Class isn't even a wax! Whens the last you put wax in water?! And as the scratches go, who cares, I'm sure its just scratching the film that the Class puts on it. No big deal. Either that or someone doesn't like you and scratch your vehicle up.

Im not familiar with the glaze part. I have seen this Meguiars swirl remover and of courst the Gold Class. I will try what you suggest, just need to look for a glaze product. Any suggestions?

LOL I guess I can't be too harsh with these newbies. They're just little towel scratches, stop worrying, when you start seeing some metal come thru, then be worried, but theres no way a towel will do that.

 

Compared to Blue502 and other 2000 post users we are all "newbies" .. ... I think I will hold my "newbie" comments until after I surpassed the 1000 post mark...

Anyway, about the swirl marks, I've heard good things about 3M rubbing compound and 3M swirl mark remover. I will be trying them on my car in the spring, followed by Zaino. After that, buy a California Water Blade to dry your car, no scratches, unless you dry it and theres still dirt there.

Towels CAN put fine scratches in the paint, been there...

For a glaze, get some 3M Imperial Hand Glaze, its the professional's choice. I think Meguires also makes one, but I can't remember the #.

OK, Im a newbie, Im a uncreative dumbass because my screen name is my real name, the chevyluva guy cant count, one guy has more posts than another guy, another guy tells jokes that almost no one understands (I think that was a sexual reference bubba)WHATERVER, WHO CARES. What about my car!!. hahaha.

Get this, wife takes the car to work with her today and parks it under a tree so she doesn't have to put the sunshade on the dash. I go out in the garage when she gets home and the entire hood is covered WITH HUGE BIRD POOS EVERYWHERE. She didn't even notice for Chr##t sakes. So I went down to Walmart and bought "the absorber" and went out and washed the car at 10PM with a drop light. The neighbors must think im nuts. The absorber worked good, you have to wring it out a lot compared to a bath towel but its worth it if it doesnt scratch. I also bought a tube of Meguiars swirl and scratch X remover stuff. I'll let you know how it works out

 

I'll tell ya--that absorber is the $hit! I've had one for yrs with great results! Tons better then a cotton towl--no scratches and no lint!
How'd you do w/the bird poop? I've always had bad luck w/trying to get it off w/o leaving any marks--even when I take it off right away--how can those marks be taken off??

 

Hey Larry got any pics? The swirl remover will help, but sometimes there is just nothing you can do about marks from bird poop short of colorsanding.

I will try to do some before and after pics of the scratches onthe back bumber with the Meguairs Scratch X stuff. The bird poop marks appear to have disappeared, I got them off right away. It has been cloudy and rainy here though so I havent' got a great look at it in bright sun. Oh by the way, Chevluva2, fogedaboudit. My daughters name is Alder Camille, pretty creative I thought. She is 17 and shares the car with me. she drives it to school and I drive it on weekends. So far so good with that plan.
The wife driving it it the problem, first time she scratched the back bumper somehow, second time bird poop, geeez

Yes she is sweet and a lovely girl, i am biased of course. She hangs a set of pink dice in the car when she drives it, and I take them down everytime I drive it.
