How do you guys clean your wheel wells?
I washed my car about a week or so ago and tried just spraying water in there with the "JET" setting on the nozzle and it was like armor plating, it didn't do jack. I broke a piece of that junk off and it was like about 1/4 inch thick. I just got my Z last August. I was just wondering, can anyone recomend any good cleaner or something that would help make it easier to clean out? I would go to a lil car wash place with the pressurized tool, but it's too cold now, if I can't clean it out myself I'll try that whenever spring comes around... Anyone???

I am also wondering this too, not that it is too bad under there right now but it will be if I dont clean it
Any type of cleaning solution that eats away at that stuff under there?? I am guessing just some elbow grease and a stiff brush may do the trick? If anyone can help thanks!

I just washed it one good time, then spray painted it black. As the original paint had faided. Looked a lot better, and hides dirt better.
Friend of mine should me a trick, if you washed them or not. Spray your favorite tire dressing in there like armol all tire foam. Does a nice job cleaning them, here is a pic of my friends ride after we cleaned it.
forgot agelfire doesnt work right here is the link.

1/4" inch thick!?!?!
Holy crap where have you been taking yer Z?? Off road?!?!
I found that getting that stuff off can be hard...scrape the big stuff first with a steel brush, then hose it down and scrub with soapy water.... lotsa elbow grease.... once it's all done you can do one of two things...
1. Paint it over and after it drys once a week hose it out...don't let the 1/4" stuff build up
2. If it don't need to be painted I would suggest putting a coat of cheap wax in there to keep the stuff from building up... and hose it down once a week
Dunno if that helps ya...

HEY! I would *N-E-V-E-R* let that crap accumulate like that, the last owner neglected it. If you'd have seen this car when I got it and how it is now the difference is night and day =) I just got some pedal covers tonight as a matter of fact...

Mine was neglected too :(
But not too bad... it was kept pretty clean on the outside but little things inside were neglected. Like cracked trim here and there...carpet needed a serious cleaning. Stuff like the cruise control was neglected as well...don't work for some reason.

87ROCZ, you got me started now, so now I wanna beat you with things that didn't work/were broke on my car(a few still don't). Alright, the headlight/cabin light thing on the headliner didn't work, fuel gauge, oil pressure, cruise(still don't), **** missing for fan, fuse panel cover, TPI distributer cover(got a plastic one... dang him, I need to get an Aluminium one still...), rear speakers, throttle cable was screwed, wiring harness went(took 2 coils and fuel pump with it), door hung too low(hinges were screwed)... I'm sure I'll come up with more =) If this general stuff counts, he had timing advanced and it was bogging down the car, after it was reset to stock I noticed instant throttle response, needed a tune up. It's got new oil, oil filter, K&N's, fuel filter, plugs, plug wires, new wiring harness, new coil, new fuel pump and sending unit... hmmm... can't remember what else....

ok im a detailer, i'll tell you how we do it. go get some degreaser and soak the inside of the wheel wells, if you have chrome rims just make sure you don't let overspray sit along time or it will burn. then take a powerwasher and blast the **** out of them. do the wheel wells first then clean the wheel or all the crap will fall down thats accumulated up there. clean the wells out everytime or you'll regret it. then after your done coat it all in armor all and your set to go

Everytime I wash my car, I spray them out real good, then use a seperate towl for them. I'm gonna be putting some POR-15 on them as well, when I get it this spring.

They're not discontinued. You'd be surprised at what is still for sale. I recently dropped by there. They even sell floormats. Only in grey and graphite. I'm assuming they have a warehouse or something, and that's all that was in stock. The alum. dist cover runs 25.00$
Front floor mats are 39 (assuming both front) and 23 (both back)
Leather shift ****, 61.00
Leather E-brake handle - 40.00
Washer tank and coolant tank. 28.00 and 16.00
Just thought you all might want to know, I'm buying a few things from there this week.

After I wash my wheel wells, I spray them with a good coat of No Touch. Makes them look real nice until next time I wash, and nothing sticks in there from driving, not even tar. Just be careful about the tread on your tires. If you coat the tread with protectant, your car will handle like its on ice until you get it worn off. I only do the tread at major shows, and usually do a couple of circles in the parking lot before I head out onto the street.

ChevyLuva3: I just called myself that because it was the first nickname given to my first camaro years ago back in high school. (I have no idea why, I dont even know anyone with a BMW)
So I just added an 86 after it and thought that it would be different

... Once you get it cleaned, spray simple green in there before you wash the car and it will help dissolve grease, tar and break down the dirt. I would think that the brushes everyone talks about would scratch the surface.
Since I have chrome IROC rims, I occasionaly take them off to clean the back of the rims. At that time I also take a scrub brush and simply srub the wheel well while I HAVE THE TIRE OFF THE CAR. I will also do this when I change my brakes.
It allows for much more working space and easier cleaning. So no matter what method of cleaning you choose, take the tire off the car and you remove the chance of screwing up your rim and tires.
I also will take my IROC to a do it yourself car wash just to clean underneath the wheel wells.
It takes a little extra time and effort, but its well worth it if you cherish the look of your car.
