NJ guys... black outs???

I'd like to get tail light black outs if they're legal b/c they'd make the car look a lot cleaner...
Are there any laws against these?
I live in westfield n.j. where laws are quite enforced, however, i've been lucky lately, haven't been pulled over for my tints or 1,200 watt system turned all the way up :-D

So please tell me if you NJ guys have had trouble ...
b/c if so, i'll just use the translucent candy apple red paint job-- which'll get that ugly yellow off the tailights and make it look at lot cleaner,-- thats a lot more work tho...

thanks guys,
mike

Thanks,
yea i thought blackouts would be out of the question, b/c cops can be a PITA,
anyways i'd like to hear more experiences with these...
If it'll be too much trouble, i think the translucent candy apple red paint will look good, from what i've seen...

I dont think the TA tailights would look right tho...
but thanks!

Hey I live in Trenton NJ and I never had a problem with them with cops. I did how ever have some bastards steal them off my car in my own driveway one night. That really Ticked me off. My buddy Kzad had his on his Bird for about a year, no problems whut so ever, They took them off for inspection, but other then that nothing.

I'm from Northern NJ--it depends on how you look. If you're a young looking kid -they're gonna bust your *****! But if you're a little older I don't think they'd bother you.

I think you're right, i should just paint them candy apple red...
Cops in my town KNOW me, and my car, and they're on to me for other stuff... so i guess i should go the legal way...

Also watch if you do paint them--try to keep the reverse lights white--some cops will pull you over for that too--if they have it in for you!!

Whoa! Who cuts off a cop?
I'm from the NJ also, bergen county. My friend has those "tail blazer" things, where theres slits open for more light on his 93 Z28. Dunno if they make that for thirdgens, could always cut em yourself. My bro a loooooong time ago, like in the early 90's would get pulled over for having headlight covers on his stang. But that makes more sense cuz those cover the blinkers also, ours don't. I say go for the translucent paint, and if ya still don't like it, go for the covers... oh and post pics of the translucent stuff painted on the blinkers! Love to see it.

Yea, I am good at doing stupid stuff on the road. I wanted to pass the car infront of me so I went first and looked second. Next thing I know there were flashing lights and highbeams in my hatch. haha ... Its all good tho, cause when I pulled over, he blew bye me.

I guess it was my lucky day???

everything in nj is illegal. you shouldn't get much crap from cops unless you're an idoit (like cutting them off). I don't think they can pull you over for it, but if they're being an a hole they could probably give you an extra fine. stupid cops...

black outs in the back will most likely get you pulled over. Blackouts in the front probably wont. A cop friend told me they were illegal but I never got pulled over for having them on the front.

Why should the ones in the front be illegal? Our blinkers aren't blocked, and who needs headlights in day light? I understand back lights, but not front ones.

As long as it looks like there is a working cat there and the emissions comes out ok, you shouldn't have to worry about anything.

About the black outs. As far as I'm aware you can have them on the front of your car, but only when you wouldn't require your lights on. I have no idea about the tail lights though.

I'm 19 and have blackouts installed on my tailights along with red glow bulbs for my license plate illumination AND very dark hatch tint....

Just the other night, I was crusing with a friend of mine, and saw a police car backing into an exit off the road to monitor traffic... I told my friend "Oh $hit... we might get pulled over..." We drove right by TWO parked cop cars, and they didn't pursue me....

I should also point out, this is in California...
