anyone in nj have their widows tinted on the two side windows. if so how do you pass inspestion. i want mine 20%. thanks alot

 

When I had my black GTA, the windows were tinted when I bought it. I dont know the percentage, but I was pulled over 2 times within about 2 weeks for it, so I pulled it off. Cops are pretty tough around here, as is inspection. If anything, have the car tinted AFTER inspection. And when you need to get reinspected in 2 years, take it off and have it redone. Cant hurt to have redone every so often anyway, makes it always look good!

 

Right after I bought my car with tint, I got pulled over in Trenton and searched for drugs. NO LIE. After that, no problems tho, until when I went for inspection - and failed for the tint. Had to take it off. Still havnt put it back on and really miss it.

do what i do....................i take my car to my friend's uncle's shop.............he doesnt do inspection there, but he will make a few phone calls up down the strip he's on to other shops.........i then bring my car to the right shop pay the guy $80 and i get a sticker

Yeah I was with KZAD and so was Jim86BIRD. I had like the Arnold of all cops, ripped me out or the car and had me on the hood faster then you can say "RICE" Gave me a freakin weggie too. So if you go with tint, go go near Trenton about 111 at night.

 

You needed to get tint to be searched for drugs?

I thought that now in NJ they cannot fail you for tinted windows? I had 5% on the sides and passed inspection. I never got pulled over but every single time I saw a state cop my windows would go down. I'm about to re-do them again to 5%

 

How dark is 5% ... got pics?

 

5% is so dark you can hardly see through it unless you're like an inch away.

 

Where'd you go for inspection 88???? private place or DMV?

 

DMV ...I guess they were in a good mood that day or something.

 

I'm gonna tell you also to not tint your windows. It wasn't easy to get off either.

 

Ok I have a prob with cops pulling you out of a car to search it just because it has too dark tint. it's called "probable cause" and that doesn't give them the right to search your car.

i guess it depends on where you are. if you live in a city like trenton or something like that, you'll probably get a lot of crap for it. but if you live in a smaller town or something then it most likely won't be a problem. i personally plan on getting a 5% tint on the back and side windows. and btw, only the sides and windshield are illegal. you can tint the back to zero if you want, and cops can't do anything. but i'd say that you're about as likely to get pulled over for having tinted windows on any car as you are for driving a camaro or firebird, so tint the hell out of em!

 

hey, thanks for all the imput. what is the darkest tint? is it limo, or is there darker? i want my rear window as dark as i can get it. the side windows i was thinking of going with 20% (thats what my sister got on her acura. looks really good!!!). i live in a smaller town, but the cops know me and they know my car so i think they are going to be D*cks to me when i get my licence. also, is it legal to have the top part of you front windshield done?

 

there's a point on the windshield that you can also tint to zero if you want. On most cars it's already done to minimize glare from the sun, but that's the most you can legally do it. If you wanna tint the whole windshield, be my guest but then you're DEFINATELY gonna get pulled over for it. tinting the side windows might be illegal, but the windshield is like MEGA illegal.

 

There's a small mark on all our windsheilds. Its a little arrow pointing inward with some numbers and letters near it. I've heard that's the line where you can tint or put a banner above, but not below. (its about 4 inches from the top). I found out about this AFTER i put my windsheild logo on, but I'm living with it. The banner's not that big or intrusive, so I don't think I'll get any crap from a cop if I get pulled over. (famous last words )
