Rusty Headers? this ones for you...
This stuff i found called "Conquest" not sure if you can buy it in stores or what, my father got it from Dept. of Transporation they use it to turn RUST to ZINC on EVERYTHING thats rusting.
I picked up the bottle from him to coat a few rust spots on my car. then I pulled the engine and started painting everything and getting it all "pretty dern good looking" then i realized the rusty old headers were goina ruin the whole thing. So.... I shopped around... Ceramic coated headers.. "Yuk" looking and $350.00 Yikes!! so then i was like OK ill Sand blast the rust off and paint them maybe it will last a while but noooo the sand got everywhere on me but did absolutelly NOTHING for the rust so...
CONQUEST!!!
20 minutes and a paint brush was all it took. What once was RUST, is now Black Zinc that will never rust again. no matter what. Because it CANT its ZINC and ZINC doesnt RUST so THERE hahaha 2 coats of Black paint on top and they look like any old stock black headers ready to rust away but NEVER again will they rust. CONQUEST!!! I took some pics Ill post them soon. before / After pics hehehe Its made by a company called Chem-Somthing... heh lemme find the bottle...

Dang dude. You sound like an infomercial.
By the way, it will rust eventually. The zinc is just a sacrificial metal. It oxidizes more readily than iron and therefore protects the headers. As soon a the iron is exposed it will begin to rust again.

I was going to buy some of that stuff for my headers but I read the back of the bottle and it said, "do not use on surfaces that exceed 200 degrees Fahrenheit". Isn't that stuff burning off by now?

Hehe. It's probably also giving off some toxic fumage burning like that.
Just being picky: but you can't technically "turn" rust (ferrous oxide) into zinc.
Anyway, I wouldn't use it on headers. The battery tray perhaps..

There is something available that I saw in a JEG's or GMPP or maybe some hotrod parts catalog that is made for rusty exhaust manifolds. Your coat it on them and run the car and it turns them to a nice cast grey color. If I run across it again I'll post it's name and where you can find it.

Looks very nice! With all that black in there though you need to get some chrome/stainless/aluminum stuff to accent it......I think I'll just go with the original colors when I pull my engine......
Get some of the orignal color and put it in this little gem....VERY NICE for small spaces and confined areas like an engine bay....you don't get clouds of overspray like a conventional spray gun and suprisingly the little sucker will go a long ways and gives a great finish.

Be sure to show us when it's done.
