I prefer plaques anyday over trophies. Plaques go on my wall, and all of my trophies (except my Camaro Nationals and Super Chevy wins) go out on a shelf in the garage. Trophies just take up too much room.
yeah yeah, i thought for sure you'd have something to contribute blue........
i prefer plaques as well when at home, but it's always nice to have something that stands out. it's amazing how many people will come and check out a car just because of a large trophy; kinda sad........but it's true.
so no one has any tall trophies they've earned?

isn't there anyone that shows there car on here? i just thought it would be something funny. some places give outrageously large trophies for certain categories.
mine was given to me for best modified and was decided by votes tallied by those who where showing cars and the people who attended as spectators.
i forget the exact number of people but it was a over 1,000 spectators with just under 400 participants. very decent size showing for an all camaro show, little under 2,000 people for the weekend. everyone who was there was able to vote, but they said a little less than half actually voted, still made me happy.
o'well that's enough story time.

Trophies and plaques all suck... its nice getting them but there's nothing to do with them. Having a wall full of trophies and plaques is just lame. Instead I have a large dresser full and a 2 footer sitting in the convertible in the garage. To be honest I"d rather have the $7 that went into the trophies instead.
I don't know Drew, it is fun when your friends come over and go right over to the trophy wall and start drooling
Plus its a good reminder of where I've wasted lots of my time!
Kandied, I do kinda envy you that trophy in the pic, my tallest one is only 2 1/2 feet tall.
There is this one show in the fall that I go to every year where they give out trophies for really wierd things like biggest bug in the radiator, largest rock chip, ugliest color, etc. They always have more trophies than there are cars, and each car gets one trophy. Their club members go around and look at each car, and find something to award the trophy for, then they print up a label and put it on the trophy. It is always one of the most fun shows of the year, since there is no pressure, and it is fun to see all of the things they come up with. Lots of laughs. And in case you were wondering, no, I don't count those in my trophy count. They use recycled trophies for the show, and I always donate my trophy (I keep the metal strip with the label) back to them later for reuse the following year.

that's funny blue, i myself don't care much for most show trophies or plaques that are given to every person entered entered although it's still fun i guess. i do however like to keep the ones that i've won from either voted by the public or i've won out of a large category much like your saying.
it's fine drew if you think it's lame to have something to show off all the hard work an effort one can put into their car. i bet you don't think it's lame when someone compliments your car though do you......same difference in essence.
i don't show my cars to win trophies that gather up dust...........i show my car because i love to share what i've done with people who are interested. the same reason that more than half the people on this board are here for. if it just so happens i get a trophy for doing such, then i'm pretty damn proud........

Don't misunderstand, being recognized for your efforts is nice, but if that recognization is a huge trophy thats goign to take up space in my already small living quarters, then its just a pain in the ***. I've got over 50 trophies, plaques, etc plus certificates from various **** I've been involved with over the years. I used to have an 8ft section of my basement wall, and the window sill full of trophies and a large 3 ring binder full of certificates, now all that **** is just in storage. If you need a trophy to feel good about your car and your efforts then what sthe point? We do this stuff cause its fun, not because we want everyone to reward us for it. They enjoyment is the reward.

Making yourself happy doing stuff is great and is most important, but its also definetly cool when others recognize it.
I completely understand you drew, but i don't think people need a trophy to feel good about their car or themselves......it's just an added bonus. true you should do it for fun, but i think half the reward is being acknowledged for it. you wouldn't become president if their wasn't a country to run would you? so why would you build a car that you couldn't drive and show off?
this post isn't to prove anything, nor is it to brag or make others feel inferior like so many have told me i'm doing. what the hell is wrong with posting a thread about showing any trophies that you may have earned. you know i thought it would be fun to hang out on this forum to share different insightes and have a little fun at it. but the majority of the people on here seem to be so bitter towards those of us who have anything remotely nice. i'm not singling anyone in particular out, nor am i trying to put anyone down. i just wanted to have a little fun and all of you seem to get your panties in a bunch....those select few know who i'm talking about. i'm getting sick of it.
here's a better pic just for you drew!!

i remeasured it again cause i was guestimating earlier......4' 3"

Oh no, just for you Kandied... 53 trophies if you count the 20+ in the 3 ring binder that I removed from the frames cause they took up too much space, and don't forget the 3' tall hockey trophy and the 3' tall trophy that I got with the Camaro last summer, that sit in a storage garage with the car...
THEY JUST DONT EXCITE ME!!! if you get your jollies off trophies thats your perogative, to me all they mean is that I did better than some other poor dumb bastard, or I was the hometown boy with some name recognition.

How about tallest ribbon
I took a Honorable Mention and if you look at what I went up against I think I did ok:
http://www.caraholics.net/caraholics...1/FrameSet.htm
I love car shows and I can always count on being the only bird there, one show I was at there were only 4 Firebirds out of 800+ entries.
I have had some comments like "look the bandit" or "there is the Kitt car" lol I dont mind. Also some say the car is too "new" and should not compete with the older ones. Its a future classic is all I can say to that.

jeeze drew, i wasn't trying to upset you.
those are obviously trophies that you've acumulated for more than just your car, airplane plaques? i thought we were talking about our rides here? i know i was.
did you actually earn them or just get them for showing up? i have over 30 that are strictly bench or participant trophies that are collecting dust too, not even counting the other 20 or so that are 3rd or better in large classifications and like i said before i understand your point, and i don't count them all or even talk about them much. how many of your nice trophies were from shows that you had over 50+ cars in your class with the majority of them having less miles, more money, etc. into them? hell yes i get my jollies off those type of trophies.
i understand you were just stating your point that you think trophies are pointless, i took it with no grain or insult we just disagree and it's fine....i, like most people love it when someone compliments my car much like i'm sure you do. a nice trophy is the same thing. but seriously, this was all for fun, i didn't think you were going to make this into a personal achievement thread.
i have over 200+ trophies for all my years of hockey, football, basketball, soccer, etc. lets not forget all the academic awards, hobby trophies like and the like. we could even get into my merit badges when i was younger if you want to go that route.
what's your point. this was just a stupid thread that was started for fun....
i love how so many of you take the fun out of things around here.
by the way, 85 ta ws6 that is one awsome ribbon.

Heh heh, u guys are crazy LOL.
1 time I was at this car show and I wasn't sure if I wanted to enter or not. So I waited and waited and when I decided yes after looking around and at some of the competition, I was 10 minutes too late. They didn't announce it over the speakers and I didn't know. Well, when they were doing the judging, 1 of the other judges came up to me and said, "why didn't u enter??" I said I was too late. He said "Oh, because we thought your car was in and we were going to pick it until he (the judge I talked too before and said I couldn't) told us, (I was parked right near the section where the entries were) that would've been you up there getting that." Needless to say I was pissed when I saw cars that didn't look as good as mine walk away with trophies, "my" trophy. But that was just real cool, and others were giving compliments even though I didn't win anything, but knew I would have.
I mean, just some1 looking in a parking lot or street, or saying "nice!!" kicks *** to me.
I do this stuff for myself and thats what matters most, but recognition, appreciation, and so on, is just cool.

Yes I realize we're talking about car trophies, but my point is that trophies in general do nothing but take up space. If someones coming into my home I hope they have a high enough opinion of me already that my trophy wall isn't going to impress them. I'd rather be recognized for who I am than to flaunt it with a hoard of trophies. I got bored with trophies when I was 18. They don't mean anything. I'd rather get a hand shake or a "good job" or a thank you than a huge trophy, or a small trophy, or a certificate. Thats my point.
No the above trophies aren't from just showing up, I flew model airplanes competitively at the national level from 1992-1997. It got extremely old because just like cars the judging for precision aerobatics is all based on opinion. Opinions mean nothing. I could do the exact same thing in front of 6 people and on one day 5 people could love it, another day 5 people could hate it. Was the performance any different? no. Was the competition any different? no.
So thats my point, my carshow trophies are mixed in with the rest, none of them mean anything to anyone except maybe to someone that has yet to figure out that in the real world they don't mean a thing. Like I said before, if you like trophies, good for you, I'm not trying to change your opinion, just letting you know why they mean nothing to me.

suppose this will be my last post so that it doesn't get to indepth. drew knows that i understand his point, but you did say you enjoy a thankyou or a good job here and there didn't you. those are all opinions as well.
i agree, i don't care to see 30 or 40 trophies laying out in front of a car at shows when most are for attendance. nor do i like to see all the sports trophies and awards that my family have. big deal right. but, if they have one with a particularly good story or meaning behind it then i'm all for it. the true reason why trophies came about anyway........it was only because so many people over the years have whined when they don't get anything that now you get a trophy or award for everything. now show me one for most improved ride or best of show in at a place like superchevy or the like an i think it's a little different.
now that trophy that i'm showing you i didn't win just because i was the only one there. as well as it wasn't for just showing up. i've only had the car in shows for little over 2 years with only the last year consisting of any mods, half the people i tried to talk to wouldn't give me the time of day because my car wasn't as nice, i didn't have the money, or i was too young. well you know what i kept going to the shows anyway getting ideas and working as hard as i could to make my car the way i want it.
2 years later........all those same people are wanting my opinions and asking me questions because now i'm the one winning the awards and getting the attention. no it's not the biggest deal, but it does make you feel good. trophies, ribbons, or even handshakes that stem from something of that origin are worth something to me and i think most would feel the same.
again, to each his own...........but just in case; mine's 4'3"
around.........think about it.
