Different dome-lamp option

I recently installed a new ABS headliner (which I HIGHLY recommend) and as much as I love it there is one flaw that needs attention, the OEM domelamp position leaves a gap in the roof. The manufacturer must have thought the lamp mounted in reverse, which covers the hole if you install that way. I always wanted map lights in my RS anyway so this was a no-brainer. I found a '98 Buick Century in the boneyard with cherry map/domelight...

You will not find a black one and mine was blue so I painted it with Fusion satin black.
After removing the old assembly (which disintegrated in my hands) I used a tap to thread the OEM pins. I did this so I could attach it to the roof with a nut and spreader bars to give the lamp assembly extra strength to help hold the much heavier headliner (ABS vs. cardboard) and also to make it easier to disassemble and replace burned-out map lights.

Then I discovered I needed to open the hole in the headliner an additional 4 " to make it fit, easy enough!
The using some waterproof butt connectors I attached the original wires to the new lamp assembly (same OEM wiring) bolted the assembly to the roof, popped on the lamp cover, and now have a cool domelamp that covers the hole, adds support to the roof, and throws light better than the mirror lamps.
BTW - Many may think this is redundant when my car had mirror lamps but the heat from the lamps messed up my mirror years ago so I bought a new one and removed the lamps in it to avoid a reoccurance.

Really?! Every one I've ever seen has one white and one orange. Have you traced it down the a-pillar?

In my 88 they are both white wires...... Cant remember if the 91 has black and orange though. Shouldnt make a difference unless you are using LED's up there
