Exactly what is on the roof console besides the light and little pocket. Want to put one on, is it hard to put on a car without originally comming with it, any sepcial parts needed besides the console? Thank You

I had one in my 85 TA. It was part of a custom interior package or it could've been ordered seperately. It had a rotating maplight(like in airplanes), a mileage and date counter(a manual rotary non electric type), an overhead light, a pocket, and the coolest thing-a removable flashlight with Firebird or Camaro embossed on it. I've seen them at swap meets for $25-50 but you have to weld in brackets to your roof. Thats why I havent put one on my Formula. If you have the time and or skill, its a worthy project though.

good luck

NO welding, just need the little screws that go into the roof with the stand offs. Actually some of the stand offs are aluminum, others are made of nylon.

Its a pretty easy install, did it in my Formula, All of our cars I believe have the holes in the roof for the panel, you just need the screws. There is a Tech post here describing how to do it, takes about an afternoon to do it up right.

Keep in mind the Hard top and T-top cars are slightly different, and may not be interchangable.

All of thier pieces are the same EXCEPT for the main piece...

I'm currently working on that right now. The holes are already drilled into the roof support going down the middle. All I have to do is buy the material for my headliner, then splice some wires and get 4 screws and install the finished product. I am thinking about getting my cell phone recharger cord"ones used in car lighters" and getting a nother lighter from the j/y and splicing it in with the one in the dash.Put a switch where the defroste button would be to turn it on and off, Hook the recharger up to the extra lighter socked hidden under my dash run the wires up to the overhead console and drill a hole for the cord to go into the sunglasses pocket to my cell phone. Watcha think?

Headliner matrerial, you need a new one, or the one without the console wont work with it?
Cell phone, I wouldnt go through all that, I would run the wiring for the new charger up to the map light and throw a off on switch , then put lighter in the pocket so you can change it easy, what will happen when you get a new phone with a diff adapter if you do it the way you describe??

headliners are the same, BUT there are some extra holes for clearances and bolts...

If you snag a console from a donor car take a Phillips screwdriver and snag the screws, ther the correct height and the have the bushings & all, makes the job 10 times easier.
