parking lamp waxing

hey
i was wondering how i can get my parking lamps to be really clear again...i dont know how to remove the casing from the light, or the plastic front...
and i have seen black outs for them and stuff...i was wondering if i got a plastic cover for it and put like 8% limo tint on the plastic, would that make a good parking lamp blackout?

thanks

mike

I've had excellent luck sanding and buffing them out. They look almost brand new and it even gets rid of a lot of the yellowish tint that they aquire.

Tint wouldn't stick very well to the plastic, especially with the raised letters that are molded into the lens. And it wouldn't last very long out in the elements.

You can also use an aluminum/plastic polish or a fine cut rubbing compound - then wax them afterwards. As for tinting them, you can use the Niteshade paint or hit your local hobby shop and get translucent black paint (or red, blue, etc).

Tinting the outside of the lens probably isnt the best idea. I guarantee that whatever coating you put on it will be sandblasted off in a matter of weeks. Maybe a coating of that nightshade paint on the inside of the lens would work better? You'll have to cut it open and re-glue it though, because the glue that GM uses is NOT coming apart

Why and how would it be sandblasted off in a couple of weeks??

If you Nigthshade the outside of the lens it will stay put and last forever. Haven't you seen my tail lights?

Well, taillights arent exposed to as much dirt/grit that is tossed from cars in front of you. My parking lamps are all scratched up from crap tossed up from other cars. I dunno, maybe the paint will stick. I guess its worth a shot, but I'd hate to have to reapply the stuff every few months if it does end up flaking off.

:sillylol: That's the funniest statement I've ever seen. Do you drive backwards a lot? (rib)

But, not only will it last longer if the inside of the lens is tinted, it will look better. If the tint's on the outside it has that "obviously painted" look to it. If it's on the inside it just looks like the lens is darkened (like it should look).

Not to burst your smart *** bubbles, but there are several members on this board with nightshade on the parking lamps without a problem.
