ive actually had this problem for quite a while. just some dry months made me forget ....seems water is getting in that deep well in the rear hatch. it is not bad weatherstrip....i know it isnt dripping in....i just notice the that bottom part has damp carpet. im thinking (seems i might have checked before) that there are holes or a hole under the carpet...not rustor anythng, i man factory. is that supposed to have some kinda plu or something????i think water is getting kicked up in there when i drive wet roads????anyone have any similar problem?????

Is the hatch closing all the way? Cause if the weatherstripping is good and your hatch isn't pulled down tight enough, you're gonna get leaks.

I had that problem a while back. I found that the water seemed to be seeping through a seam in the metalwork right behind the tail lights. I saw small trails of rust-water, so look out for something like that.

Just a dab of silicone fixed that one.

I've been fighting a hatch leak for months on the GTA. First of all, there is an oval shaped plug right in the center of the well. Pull up the carpet or get underneath and you can see it easily.

After changing 2 weatherstrips and siliconing everything in sight, I finally pulled the hatch off the car and took it apart. I found out that it had been pulled apart in the past and there was absolutely no gasket between the glass and the painted part. Anyway, I put a row of monkey **** in and reassembled, but now that I actually wanted it to rain, it hasn't.

My point is... if it's leaking through that spot, you can wind up with a wet carpet and no evidence of a leak. It might be worth pulling the trim off the top of the hatch and see if you can find evidence of a leak, such as water marks on the inside of the trim or excessive rust on the hardware.

Yep same here...
apply a sealer between the hatch and glass...
gives you a chance to improve the alignment as well

I had the same problem but it was because my car was parked on an angle which caused the frame to flex a little(damn unibody)
didn't notice till the back was full 1/2 the way up.

HAHA I had the same problem and found that it was coming from the weatherstrippin in two spots, the key side and upper left side of the hatch.
Also I have a ton of antifreeze in that hole behind the spare and it's annoying.

i had this very problem, it is the decklid to glass seal. i found it very difficult to fix, in fact i never fixed it and when the car was wrecked. when the seal goes bad the water seaps through the decklid and drips down off of that plastic cover under the decklid. i would get it fixed asap cuz it caused alot of mold down in the carpet area under my speakerbox. im sure if you're leaking you are getting mold and a heynous smell.

Mine would get water in the trunk well. I checked everything, taillights, decklid weatherstrip, deck lid glass seal. All was fine. Then one day I popped the hatch right after a hard rain. I saw some water coming from the the black plastic covers on the underside of the deck lid. It turns out those covered where the spoiler mounted. I pryed them off and there was my leak. I got some silicone adhesive and slaped it on the nuts and that fixed it. Seems when the car got repainted back in 92 the guys did not seal the spoiler bolts and nuts like the factory does.

So if all else fails check there.
