Fixing to start on my interior

I am fixing to start fixing the interior on my 91rs after I get it back from the tranny shop. I am needing to know how hard it is to swap the speakers, front and rear?? Also I am looking for a new shifter **** (automatic) and Some floor mats that fit well, almost stock. I have yet to find some "universals" that fit right. I have already purchased the headliner backing. Also, the rear speaker grates are kinda nasty, any way/idea to redo these?? Much thanks in advance.

well

speakers.. rear = easy.... front.. leave em in the dash, & put kick pannels w/ speakers up front... it'll be much better than the factory location..... plus, removal of the dash & reinstallationplus the probability that it will crack your dashpad... get the idea... front = very difficult..... just my .02 cents

I have removed my dash pad several times without cracking it. You want to do it on a warm day and it helps if you have been treating the vinyl with armour all or something so that it is not dry. Just take your time and be careful.

The front speakers are easy as well, just did mine 2 weeks ago. Just have to make sure the speaker magnet will fit in the space if you are replacing them, they dont leave you a lot of room on the driver side.
Rear speakers are even easier.
Headliner is also a breeze.

I had no problem with replacing my front speakers, just go easy on the dash pad. After all the screws are out lift it up and pull it out.

The shifter **** is held on by a clip that pulls out the front. You can use a small screwdriver to pry it out, then just pull the **** off the shaft. Replacement ***** can be had off most recent GM cars with floor shifters. I have a "T" handle from a Firebird in my Camaro, just like it better. I am also assuming that you have an automatic transmission.

The rear speaker "grates" should be a heavy perforated card, a piece of foam with holes in a 6 X 9 pattern and a piece of headliner material. If they are just coming unglued from each other then get some contact cement and follow the directions in the tech articles for the door panels. Glue the foam back to the card then glue the cloth back to the foam.

Hope this helps,

Great, thanks for the advice. So the front speakers just be gental and take my time. I'm installing pioneer ts-g4611 4x6 witch are very low wattage and have a very small magnet. And so I can possibly use the headliner pad on the rear speaker grates, COOL, cheaper that way . I'm installing pioneer ts-a6985 6x9 speakers back their. I got a matching set for payment on working on another car cant beat that. Well, I plan on doing this all withing the next week. Thanks alot

What the heck are you guys doing to the dashpad!!?? I've had mine in and out a hundred times with no problem. If you guys are finding it difficult to change the front speakers, then I would recomend you take you car to a mechanic to do oil changes and brakes and stuff like that....those are tough jobs too!!!

Seriously though, I think you'll find that it's really no big deal. The only advice that I can think of is to have a friend standing outside the car to hand the dashpad to once you've pulled it over the steering wheel...not required, but it's nice to have!!!

Well, she really didnt pick it out. A friend lost his job and needed some cash to pay his bills, he started out at 700, I got him down to 400 since it needed tranny work, and wouldnt start. Well I got it running in his drive way, drove it home, have fixed some other stuff, took wife and child for ride in it, they seem to like it, but wont know for sure tell tranny fixed, and I raise the seat up, and dx the air bar (shes 5'5", 92 lbs). OO yea, anywhere I can order floor mats to fit a 3rd gen?? And how do I make the cupholders, she always takes a drink with her??

An idea for the driver's seat would be to find a six-way power seat in the junkyard and then just transfer your seat to the power base. That way everyone could drive the car. I know how it is, my wife is 5' 4" tall and cannot drive my Camaro very far, and when I try to get in her car, it's no deal until I put the seat back.
