personally, I like the cleaner, simpler look of not having one.....having the overhead console makes things in the car feel more cluttered, I had one in my old T-top '84 SC, and it wasn't very useful....had some tacky 80s counter thing on the front, a map light, the pouch, the "broken camaro flashlight", and the overhead dome light....It never saw much use....but if you really want one, they are very easy to install...

I think it looks a little better...it's not to big and doesn't seem to clutter the interior at all. The most common thing i get is "what the hell is that thing for"

Although the counter is tacky, it can be made into something else. It is my intent to put some form of LCD in place of that. (just have not figured out where yet.

I have several t-top versions of the body itself. One has the map light, leather pouch, wiring, and dome lens but is missing the flash light and mounting stud. While this one is decent, it is not mint. $25 shipped for it; $20 shipped for a body with leather pouch and wiring only).

First let me say I don't have it, and I haven't seen it in person, so my opinion is based purely on the thousands of these seen on Ebay, and the ones on this board.

I don't like it. The idea is nice, but the functionality of it is what gets me. It seems like most of the "features" it has are useless. The map lights would be cool, but I can get a firebird dome light with map lights that will fit. I don't need a removeable flashlight, I can throw my mag light in the arm rest compartment. The pouch? What for? Again, I have a compartment in my armrest.

I just don't see a reason for it. Maybe if you had a dropdown lcd like someone suggested, or some otherwise worthwhile feature, I'd change my mind, but those are all custom ideas anyways, the stock GM version just doesn't appeal to me.

i love my console, installed it a few months ago. the pouch holds my garage door opener perfectly (much better than having it on the visor, where it wears out the fabric and falls off if the visor is in use!) I havent figured out what to do with the stupid counters yet, but im working on it.. also as far as where to find one - ebay has several all the time, and i have an extra one here, but it needs a little clean up work to look decent.

If you like the idea of a console but want one that is actualy useful take a look at the ones in the 95 or 96 and up S10 blazers, its about the same size, alot smoother look, and very functional. Instead of the counter it has a pad which is great for switches, there is a spot for a garage door opener where it goes inside and has a button, then there are 2 sun glass holder doors that swing down. When I find a decent one at the bone yard I plan on seeing how it fits in a T top car.

Its actually a fiberglass headliner, but it is covered in the standard headliner material. Its black and just reflected the light that way. It does look cool though.

I have an over head console in my car and I love it, keep my glasses in the pouch, mark how many miles I have every time I change my oil or gas mileage. I have the rare Camaro flash light and it works great, I have used it for everyhting. If you guys need light bulbs for them, they sell them at Radio Shack.

I say doooo it.

Here it is, though a bit dark. Frankly, it looks better than it really is. I have a couple of bodies with wiring (but no map light, flash light or mounting studs which might be used to experiment with switches. Remove the leather pouch and there's a flat expanse that might be useful for the above.

yea i hate the overhead console. it's just stupid, what's that pouch for, a garage door opener? sun glasses? giant 80's "car-phones"? and the counters would be alright if they moved, like the odometer and trip meter.

if anyone wants mine i'll sell it cheap, i'm replacing my headliner soon and i'm ditching the full console for just the light fixture from another camaro.

I have to agree with the no-overhead console. I hated mine so much, I removed it when I changed my headliner. It speaks volumes of 80's styling. The mechanical dial is terrible, and it just looks OLD.

The little pouch was pretty much useless (I left my sunglasses in there) and the stretchy band always falls.

I say leave it off, unless you are going to fabricate a nice overhead console with good map lights, digital readout, and some better sunglass storage.

You know, I was gonna install one when I completely redo my interior. But, after reading htis thread, and seeing some more detailed pictures, it seems like it is not a good idea. I have a t-top car, and it might have looked ok, but it would be useless, and no need ****ing up a brand new ABS headliner (whenever I get it) for a useless peice.

It should be on Celebration 6969 btw guys, lol and I use the pouch for my smokes and the mileage one is set to the mileage that I got the car at, but when I do my headliner it is coming out, there is dignity in simplicity:lala:

I think I'm going to junk mine when I get a new headliner. I was driving the car a few days ago w/ the t-tops off and I began to think how nice a true targa top would be... Then, I look out the pass side window and all I saw was the HUGE overhead console in the way.

Serves NO purpose anymore (in stock form) and is just an eye sore to me.

That movie rocks! lol

I had one in my 84 Z28. It didn't come with one originally, and it was a real bytch to cut the headliner to get it in!

makes it more cluttered? hah.. there isnt a square inch of space in this car to use without making it more cluttered to begin with, or completely losing the functionality of something.. I thought that at first too but screw it, im gonna load up and use every inch i can find :P
i just took the counters out of the front of mine, now im making that into some dummy lights for switches im going to put where the pouch use to be, gonna have the lights look just like the ones in my guages already so it will look very stock, instead of just a lighted switch or led
speaking of giant 80's car phones.. haha, my car came with one of them, mounted to the center hump on this flexy pole thing

Roof Console's are awsome !!!!!

I use the swivel light EVERY night I drive my cars because I smoke and it lights up the entire ashtray area. The light is focused on that spot and isn't "too much" like the "duel map light" overhead lights.

My console holds 2 pens, My Garage door opener, and the flashlight has been used more than once when nothing else was availible. I also use the dial to remember the next upcomming birthday - I can't remember all of them for everyone so I just get an update from the wife once someones birthday passes !!

The T-Top sytle roof console fit into my 95Z pretty good !! I just had to cut a hole for the light bulb clearence.

I love my overhead console. I even use that silly counter thing to keep up with oil changes, oh and by the the way that cheasy little flash light in mine still works......
