Digital to analog????
Digital to analog????
Is it possible to convert a digital dash to analog? I have an 88 GTA Trans/Am with the digital dash. I have an analog cluster and would like to know what is involved in switching it, if at all possible? :hail:
no, it's not feasible . if you really want the look of analog instead of a digital dash your best bet is putting in the analog cluster and then buying an autometer speedo that's made for a GTA ... the gta's have electronic gauges (even when using the analog faces, which i assume is what you mean) and you'll need the entire wiring set to come with the cluster. basically yes, but it'll be quite an ordeal =/

I don't agree. All of the analog gauges are electric too. The harness is probably different, but all the signals should be there. If you've got the wiring from the analog gauges and a service manual, I don't see why you can't do it.
A tach wire is a tach wire. Nothing special about that.
Electric speedo signal is the same on a dig dash. They all use the same VSS.
Fuel gauge is still 0-100 ohm resistance.
Etc. The gauge signals are all the same. If you got all the physical parts and took your time rewiring, I'm sure it would be possible.

Hey, thanks for all the info...... I don't have the wiring harness, just the cluster, so I think this is a job that will wait till the winter down time. I want to go to the analog dash just because I feel it looks better. No real problems with the digital dash, just kinda tired of the looks. Also, I have been told that it really draws alot of power from the alt. Anyway, thanks to everyone who replied.:hail:

really your tired of it?...do this...store your car over winter and dont look at it...lol then start it up in spring at nite....ahhhh it looks so nice when everything comes too life and the dash just beeps at you..i started my car 2 days ago at like 10 30pm..and i dont get tired of it..i had the analog before and the needles looks nice but theres nothing like the little bar graphs going up and down and sideways...well just a thought...i added the pillar guages (electronic ones) got them from summit i get a lot of attention..even from the rice burners...
LOL....yes thanks, I appreciate the suggestion, but knowing how much energy I have I probably won't be doing the change over anyway.LOL...
But thanks to everyone for all their help.
But thanks to everyone for all their help. speaking of dashes..tonite my wife decided to fight with me so i turned to my love..my car of course...so i sat in it started it vrooomm...ahh i saw one of the lights in the dash were too dim..hmm took it apart..which wasnt much fun,but then it reminded me of your post sniper.a digital dash cant draw that much power cause all that lights up those neat bar graphs are light bulbs behind a liquid crystal display and a piece of metal with color inserts,so the analog dash has the same bulbs, the one that go in the printed circuit..sniper if you ever take the dash apart look at where the tach is located and below it (withouth the trim on) you'll see an extra light bulb hole,i wonder if this dash was ever shared by another car???i put a bulb there but it didnt light up ...it would light the area right next to the fog light switch, but obviously its covered by the trim...hmmm maybe the vette?

Has anyone actually done this???
I really need to switch the digital dash out of my GTA, for two reasons. First of all, the odomter only works when it feels like it; kind of a problem when I'm needing to sell the car. Also, every once in a while the gauges (oil, amp, and cooant temp) don't work. That's not cool at all. If I get ahold of an analog dash from an 87+ firebird, will it plug straight in?

visc..check too see if the dash is loose cause the whole thing comes out in one piece.theres a connector behind the dash that's held in place..so if the dash comes forward a little bit everytime u hit a bump the dash will loose power try pushing the dash in and tighten the black screws around it just take out the black trim around the dash and you'll see the screws..how much do you want for the dash?

Thanks for the advice. I've kindof tried that already. Things dont seem to work or stop working because of bumps, and pushing on the dash does no good, banging the dash board does no good, etc. The odometer usually works when driving around town. But if I hit the highway for more than an hour or two, the odometer will cut out, and wont come back till I get into town driving. Because of that I would think it had something to do with getting too hot, but sometimes I come out in the morning, and the odometer just plain doesnt work.
I'll see how cheap I can pick up an analog dash from the junkyard, I've got connections there. If it works, I'll let you guys know.
