Check out These custom Fenders !!!!!!
I found these custom fenders from Unlimited Products www.up22.com
They are fiberglass 82-92 camaro fenders with 70s TransAm side vents, or as the site calls them "gills".
If anyone has pics of them on their car, I would really like to see them….

it even had the shaker ---I hope someone have this pic im talkn about ¡¡
it was supercharged as long as i remember
In the same also featured several 92 Firehawk with a little wheel
on the side for something ....i guess for know the acceleration or somethig but it was an instrument attached to the doors and it has little wheels

I just went and looked at my engine bay and it looks like there as some places where it could vents heat from the Engine bay.
Im sure those fenders would do a better job of venting heat.

I agree
I'll jsut get maaco to do a fast job on em. I am gonna check ebay out first to see if that company is selling them for a little less. We should check out other companies so that we can get the best price.
OR
We should make a thread on how to do that ourselves. I am sure we can buy the 100 dollar cheaper ones and then ask the forums how we can put on those scoops.
What do you think?

find a gill you want, cut a hole in your fender, bang in the edges of your hole, break out the drill and rivet gun or welder, attach it, then fill the banged in part smooth with fiberglass filler.
Tada!
If you aren't interested in the whole fender being fiberglass, this is the way to go. Heck you could even make your own gill for that matter
If you already have a fiberglass filler, it's even easier. as you could make a fiberglass gill, and bond it directly to the fender with o rivets welds etc

Wow thats great!! I've always wanted to do a mod like that but I could never find anything like it. Thanks bj350hp!! I think I want to order a set. I like the fact that they are fiberglass (lightweight).
Now could that gill be functional in any other way besides venting heat?? Maybe a brake duct? (just a question??)

They are pretty sweet! The fact that they are fiberglass only appeals to me with the weight issue. I would like to see a picture of them on an acctual car because i have a feeling that they fit like crap! It would be my luck to drop around $700 on them to find that they fit like crap. I was considering taking the Firebird GTA fender vents and putting them on my Iroc's! This was ofcourse after my paint job! Next time i will do more custom work to it.

Oh yeah, i am sure they would but fiberglass is hard to get a proper fitment. Any hood you will look at is off just a bit! I am talking about how well their molds are. Pictures would be nice. I am not targeting the company, just the parts made from fiberglass in general!

that does look sweat, i actually thought of that a while ago
but wouldn't it be easier to just install that piece onto your original fender? somehow cut it out of a 2nd gen then cut a slot in your 3rdgen and a little touch up here and there?

Thats what i was trying to say with the GTA vents! I looked at the whole fender swap but i think it would be easier to just do the vent swap and a little body work!

GTAs don't have fender vents. If your GTA has them, it's because somebody put Trans Am fenders on.
But anyway... I think those fenders would be a little more appropriate on a Firebird than a Camaro. That style vent has always been a trans-am thing.

Sorry about that, i just meant the car with the vents on the side of the fenders! Trans AM, GTA, i have mistakenly confused them. Would it be wrong to take a Viper vent from their hoods and to put it on my car? I am planning on doing this and using the ram air setup from the guys who make them for the Ram Air hoods for third gens. I feel that it is a good idea, maybe i am wrong!?

I can't see 4-8lbs of weight savings being worth $560 (not including shipping)...
Side vents are usless and just there for decoartion on a 3rdgen. the only opening from the engine compartment to the fenders is the front corners where the battery/EVAP sits and the small opening where the ECM wires come in from back corner next to the blower motor.

The shape isn't identical, but the "style" I would say is very similar...
but anyways...

I got a good close look at a 2nd gen with the stock style gills (not those fiberglass ones, they're a little different). The stocks are pretty nice; they have a sort of screen over them so crap doesn't get in there, which I don't see on the fiberglass ones. Also, if you notice closely, a number of thirdgens have the ECM wiring running through that fender, so you may have to deal with water problems. Personally, I'd much rather get the gills right off a 2nd gen fender. They look better, don't allow as much rain or debris into the fender, don't have to deal with the fender not fitting right, and cost less to do, albeit with more work involved. If you're going for weight, get the OEM style fiberglass. If you're going for looks, go for the second gens.

Jealous? Man, if everyone put the same stuff on their cars that would be boring! No one rarely does custom stuff. Everyone and their mother has the hood you have, as well as the one i have! I doubt i would get that same reaction. If i have the motor that needs the ram air set up i do not see a problem! As long as i don't hook some thing like that up to my stock 305 or better yet, a v6 as an iroc "clone"! You are right though, whatever floats your boat. later

Unlimited makes good glass...
For my old Camaro, I bought a cowl hood from Unlimited Products (the makers of the fenders) and it was of very good quality. It wasn't "wavy" like some cheesy fiberglass units are.
Heh Heh, he said "fiberglass unit".

There is a down-side to those fenders. I was goin to buy a set months ago, but they aren't worth the money to me. They are (UNCUT) fenders which mean they have a straight edge by the door which you must grind, curve and finish your-self. There are also no provisions for mounting inner fenders. THey must be molded in. There were a couple other things also, but nothing major.

Well at least somebody is making something different for our cars.
I just had to chime in. I'd be curious to see a set on and see what ti really take to finish them. Fiberglass is never scuff and paint thats for sure. there is always a ton of block sanding needed to get the things to really look straight. I have to laugh at the import guys at shows who have spent all this $$$ on body kits and a decent paint job, only to have it look like crap because some one cut courners on the body work.
Joes fave expressions: "Hey look his fender is waving at me!"
& "It looks like they block sanded with a rock!"
So its the $$$ plus time to get the thing straight before it can be painted!

Well you think it would be real safe too drive with two fiberglass fenders. Like if YOu got hit head one or from the side I think you would get pretty beat up, and if you also have fiberglass hoos like I do, thats going to be even worse. Well I'm not a expert, I could be wrong. But I'm not sure if that reinforcement bar behind the plastic bumper cover will help out as well. I wouldn't want a engine in my lap.
Personally I'm thinking bout just taking those lil vents off the TA's a CUtting into the fender.

The fenders and hood are more cosmetic than protective. 20ga sheetmetal isn't exactly what one would call stout. While in a frontal impact, the fenders & hood might take some of the force away.. I'd doubt it's anything worthwhile.

Hey CrazyHawaiian, you know what they say, "if you can't beat them", do what you want! No, seriously, not everyone is going to like my car, i can live with that since it is MY car and My money, but believe me, there are tons of cars on this board that are ten times worse than my car! Besides, the lack of custom parts for our cars leaves us with only a few options, which everyone will get sooner or later! For example, how many people have a 2" cowl hood? Too many to count! It is all about orriginality. It's just my opinion that having a Viper hood vent in front of my Iroc hood with a ramair setup behind it being sweet as hell. I know that in my area no one can touch that idea! Ours cars are "me-too" cars, we have to be original to be different! Later
If I got those fenders, what kind of work would I have to do to get them on the car? I'm guessing it wouldn't be just a "take off the old ones and bolt on the new ones" type of thing?
How much weight would it cut off if I replaced both my fenders?

You would prob have to contact the company to see what the fiberglass fenders weigh. Then I would call someone who carries the fenders in metal and get a weight. Its the only way to know for sure. I have never had mine off to see what they weigh.
As far as take off and bolt on, nope. Well you already know they would have to be painted, but fiberglass it not straight. It has waves all in it. There is a ton of block sanding that goes into making fiberglass parts look anywhere near as good a metal. Heck my hood was sprayed in filler primer and blocked 4-5 times and still it is not perfectly straight. There are little waves in some places.
I also believe some one said you had to finish the final fitting to the car yourself as well. So honestly unless there is significant weight reduction, I would think you would be better off to graft a set of vents into your existing fenders. In fact I think someone said 100lbs is only worth a tenth in the 1/4 mile. I personally would take the $500+ and spent it on performance mods and cut and paste the fender vents from a yard car instead.

The weight is on Unlimiteds site.. 8lbs per fiberglass fender. I might be underjudging the weight but, camaro & bird fenders do not seem to weigh more than 10-12lbs a piece. Which, leads back to what I first said.. "I can't see 4-8lbs of weight savings being worth $560 (not including shipping)".
