no it's not an easy process. I converted my auto to a six speed, and that was truely a pain in the butt. Well worth it though!!

Try the PM button next time. yeah i just did this and i am not a novice mechanic but no master.....ne way...this is not an easy swap...the biggest PITA is the pedals...took me 12 hours total, from taking then out of both cars and then installing the master cyl and then reinstalling the pedals....what a PITA

My back was pretty sore for a few days! I have been thinking about doing this too. A T56 sounds nice but a T5 swap is so much cheaper. Some questions: How much HP/TQ can the average T5 from a 3rd gen handle? Or did one year come with an especially strong T5? What years would be the best for a T5 donor car? Right now I'm looking at a T5 from a 87 T/A. Do you guys think it could handle the torque that a 350 TPI with boltons would make?
I know I should do a search (and probably will as soon as I post this). Just wondering ...

Ok, I did a search and here's what I came up with. Everyone says the regular T5 is rated at 290 ft/lbs and the world class T5 is 310 ft/lbs. The world class T5 came in 88 and up IROCS.
And the stock rating on the 350 TPI is 330 ft/lbs .... so by swapping a 87 T5 into my 92 B4C it seems I would just be asking to break the tranny. What do you guys think?
No wonder is so much cheaper than a T56 lol.

I was going to do this when I killed my automatic drag racing. I talked to one of my friends who is a tranny specialist (he worked for the Jim Yates pro-stock drag racing team). He said that unless you have a donor car sitting right beside you, it's a real pain... there are parts that you don't know you need until you need them. He used to run a tranny shop and he would refuse to do auto-to-manual swaps just because they're so time consuming. As a result, I put in a Pro-Built TH-700R4 a few weeks ago. So far it's working out great... a lot better than the stock automatic. It would still be a lot more fun to drive if it were a stick, but I can wait for now... my next car is gonna be a five speed.
