lic plate idea

ok i know this would be against the law. what if i took a choke cable and ran it back my car from near my consule to the lic plate thing. i would then procede to hook it up so when i want i can pull the choke cable . which would make the lic plate come down. this could come in real handy. giev me ur thoughts?

Why would you want to pull the plate down?

u would have to drill a whole trough the bumper cover andmount it below it the have just the cable come up to the plate and mount it somehow. then when u pull the cable the plate would flip down atleast on camaro cause u got the flip down plates.

Well, first of all if you ever did something and wanted the cops not to see your plate and flipped it down, you'd be probably doubling or tripling (at the BARE minimum) the amount of trouble you'd be in, because not only would you be then driving "without a license plate" but you'd have absolutely no choice but to run and try to get away from them. Can you say, "America's Wildest Police Chases"?

And if you were only intending to do it to other people, you'd also have to rig a cable to allow you to put the plate back in place, because it's illegal to drive with it down.

I really don't see any logical reason for doing this...

you must not have very much fun....
plus it's a cool trick at car shows, i'm gonna dig a few old electric motors up see what i can do electronically with this idea. choke cable is probably best though. and i think we all know that you wouldn't do this in front of a cop

it would sort of be decent if u was speeding on the highway at a high rate of speed so noone can get ur plate numbers. what about doing donuts in a parking lot this way noone can really know it was u

But car shows weren't mentioned in the reasoning given--poke actually said it was to hide the plates when he didn't want them seen by people because he did something.

For a show, I'd think it would be better to do something more custom than just being able to control it from the inside, but I'm not sure what.

I can actually see how a device like that could be useful if you don't have the hatch release button (like me)...I always end up hurting my hands on the plate...and it would make for a good excuse to have the device

one of my friends did that to his iroc....he did it so he could run the toll boths on the tollway without the ticket camera getting his plates...plus it comes in handy for him when cops come to break up the street races and he has to run from them

he used the choke cable off an honda tractor

theres a device thats vacuum opperated that Ive seen advertised in hot rod mags. Rodders use them when ever they completely shave and smooth their body panels. Motor running: plate is shown, motor off: plate is up, and not shown. good for shows...

actually if u think about it the cable wont be a good idea becuz after using it a while or even just the cable moving it will probably do a hacksaw effect and cut threw ur bumper. the motor idea is kinda good.

actually its somewhere around 75 cents at 4 places and 40 cents to enter and at some places 40 cents to exit as will

and he has to ride the toll at least twice a day...that starts to add up after a while

i'm surprised there isn't a donut muncher waiting for him on the other side of the toll booths if he pulls that stunt in an area he frequents in the same car, plates or not!

from what ive been told (from a friend thats a local cop)
locals cops are not suppose to stop people for speeding or running the tolls, only state troopers can . Im guessing this is because the tollway is own and operated by the state

Sorry I'm gonna have to call.......

There is NO WAY cops are going to let the same person keep running the tolls WITH NO LICENSE PLATE........

After the first or second picture they would have you.........Driving with no license plate is kinda againist the law last time i checked.......

There is really no way you can keep getting away with it in the exact same spot....

Just do this

Get a custom plate that looks like this:

1lIll1Il

With all those ones and ls it would be hard to decipher at first glance.

If you really want to get technical (for you PSYCH majors) do a survey/experiment with about 10 different license plate combos and get a group of people. then have them look at the plate for 5 seconds to see if they can remember it. then use the one that they could not remember most.

first of all, you have to realize that so many cars go through the toll booths (some of these are all computerized and without attendants...just highspeed cameras)...plus the attendants dont give a darn, if there is no cops, or they dont see they get away with it...a lot of people around here, run them with plates being visuable.

second you have to realize that with so many people running them it takes officals so long to go through all the pictures and decide if it was accidental, on purpose, and multiple offenders. plus the cameras and the toll booths around here sometimes dont work.

third there are not enough state troopers to catch everyone running the lights. That means that the tollway has a lot racing going at night and sometimes during the day.( in the last 4months i can count on 1 hand how many cops and other state officals running up and down the tollways)

and there is nothing the city can do about it until they get a better system and more police to stop the problems.

To get outta toll booths try mounting really bright HID lights and turning them on when needing to mess up the picture. Would also be good for running from cops. Wonder how illegal it is??? Either way trying to rip off toll booths or run from the cops is stupid, its easier and cheaper in the long run just to take advantage of the system AKA make friends, bribes, gifts, money, campain donations.
