Cold Storage

I need a little help w/ storage. When I put my cars into storage for the winter I put the car covers on them. They are tight fitting high end covers (not like tarps or anything, they were like $200 each) so my question is will the covers cause any long term damage to my paint??? second when should I put my cars up on blocks?? like how long is long enough to use blocks? Oh yea I forgot to mention I use 2 de-humidifiers, and use fuel-stablizer. Is there anything else I need to do before I leave for the winter?

Thanks

I would just leave the car on the factory wheels and tires........Leaving a car on blocks or jacks for an extended period of time can't be good for it...........maybe go on a rotation or something......

I'm also guessing for $200 you got some pretty good covers which means they probally won't scratch the paint, unless you go out of your way to make them do so...........

Disconnect the battery too..........

somebody once told me to put cotton sheets ove the car, then put the cover on to protect the paint.

When I put my car under the covers in the garage, I get very slight indentations or water marks that are caused by the cold vs humidity. These marks are in the form of the pattern of the material of the cover. They do no damage to the car and it only happens in the extreme cold months of Jan, Feb and March. As soon as I wash the car they are gone. the sheet then cover idea maybe the solution. I will always cover my car in the winter but I don't put it on blocks. One I don't have any and two sometimes I pull it out and take a short drive when the roads are clear just to stay in touch with my baby. Wouldn't want may car to think it is abandoned plus of my 4 vehicles it is the most fun to drive even in the winter. Yes more fun than the 4x4 Blazer.

don't put the car on blocks.......your only doing damage.

if it's in a garage with low traffic area i wouldn't even put a cover on it, that is unless you have some kind of major dust problem or again high traffic.

covers are better meant for outside use of cases where there is traffic just as added protection.

disconnect the battery, fill the tank with stabil and then gas as well as make sure to run the car so it goes through the system, fill the tires up to the proper pressure so they won't warp or distort in anyway, if your air conditioning is in good shape with a decent charge you might want to run the vehicle once a month so that the seals don't dry up.

other than that relax....don't make storing a car harder then it needs to be.
